Wolves 2 Reading 0 - Verdict Thread

Reading were appalling, reminded me of wolves era Hoddle.

Thought wolves were light years' better than last season. Very impressed with Tex & Bod. I thought Mason, Saville and Batth were good from the old players. Also thought Coady looked ok too.

The biggest difference was the tempo and attitude of the players though. Compared to the dreadful 0-0s from Kenny's team it was just soooo much better. The team wanted to get the ball, they wanted to get forward and they wanted to take chances.

Very impressed with Zenga, needs to pay more attention to the 'Walter give us a wave' chants though. Thought it was very telling that all the players hugged him as they came off as a sub, seems he's really trying to make a team.

Edit - to cap the day bumped into Bully outside after the game. He was very surprised when my little boys went 'That's bully'

Dear Mr Zenga and Mr Bod.

There is more then one stand at Molineux.

Love The Quirk.

xx

Don't think you can ask anything more from a player than Bodvarsson gave today. He is an absolute hero. Love him to bits.

Having read the first couple of pages of the matchday thread anybody would have thought we had already lost when the team was put out. If today shows anything it is to give the players a chance. The players look so different with a manager that actually looks like he knows what he's doing. We had a plan and every single one of them knew what they were doing and when they were supposed to be doing it which is a massive change from last year.

I thought every single one of them were excellent, obviously they can still work on things like Mason and his finishing but what a massive change from last year.

The North Bank/South Bank argument is divisive but you can't argue with players and managers being enamoured with the stand making noise.

You have the choice of:
1) make noise and have the players/manager be appreciative but everyone assumes you are a moron
Or
2) watch and analyse games with the players/managers being less appreciative but everyone assumes you are moaning.

Neither way of supporting is better or worse. Just different.

Great afternoon...apart from those fucking clappers. Pass me the paracetamol.

What did it say in the clappers?

The clappers, hmm not a fan but better than I expected tbh. Enjoyed the Billy Wright using them to start some noise. My gut feeling is that they should be given to the family enclosure only or to schools when we give out free tickets.

More importantly, how sexy was Texiera? The kid has some amazing touches and has really surprised me by how robust he is.

Easy as you like today although Reading had a lot of possession they did cock all with it, 2-0 flattered them at times.
It was a very intelligent performance at times.
We looked to have a good shape about us today and Coady did a decent job at RB although he was rarely troubled.
Reading won't be troubling anyone this season based on what I saw, suicide football at the back at times.

Tex was fantastic.
Bod was excellent. Somebody mentioned he may be the new Dougan.....maybe Dicko could be his Richards.

That could set this division alight.

Lovely result. When I saw the team I thought we were in trouble but sounds like a terrific performance. Zenga has recovered the enthusiasm that we have missed towards the end in the KJ era and made it a positive in the way that we look to close the ball down quickly. Hopefully there is more to come!

Superb match, most enjoyment I've had at Molineux for a long while. The whole atmosphere of the place seems different following the clean sweep. Texeira is a superb player but even some of the old guard seem to be playing much better, testament to good coaching and organisation.

Zenga seems popular with the players and had encouraging words with each of them on the pitch at full time and again sent Bod to the South Bank for the thunderclap though at times we seem to be walking a fine line between this and 1970s style monkey chants.

A very good day, a very good result and could have been more but for their keeper who from a distance looked very much like Ikeme.

Texeira MOM

Al Habsi has always been a good keeper, I would definitely be happy to see him here.

I remember he was really good for Wigan about 5 years ago, has a great record as a penalty stopper.

Sounded like he had a worldly today.

Not sure we learned a lot from that today. Reading were pretty much awful, Stam seems to think he's managing Barcelona, their passing around the back 4 was an accident waiting to happen. They had absolutely nothing in the centre of the park which made it particularly easy for us.

Teixeira looks a quality player, drifted in and out of the game though. Probably due to being played about wide. Didn't look 100% fit as he did tire, very unlucky not to score just before being subbed. Bod very much a handful, big, strong yet surprisingly quick and technically sound, has everything he needs to be a fan favourite.

The rest pretty much as last season, Mason could have had a hat-trick but did well apart from some poor finishing. Doherty good going forward but defensively suspect. Coady still can't control or pass a ball, Saville suspect in possession and always likely to play us into trouble. Edwards runs around but killed several attacks with a lack of technical ability or pace. Evans did OK but nothing special, Baath, Iorfa and Ikeme seldom troubled by poor opposition.

Decent enough performance against limited opposition, did what we had to do well enough and could have won more handsomely but for some poor finishing. Tougher tests await.

On the face of it that's harsh JR but I'd agree with all of it apart from Coady who I thought had a very good game, using the ball well and having decent technical ability. He worked well with Iorfa too, taking up good positions and aerially excellent. Mason I thought took up good positions and either through a lack of confidence or ability just didn't take his chances.

I'll have 3 Texiera's for midfield please, he frightened Reading to death every time he had the ball. I think Bod is my man crush.

South Bank thunderclap needs a bit of work, while the Iceland fans version was disciplined and atmospheric the South Bank sounds like a bunch of sea lions.

We totally bossed the game from start to finish, Reading weren't very good but a lot of that was due to the fact that we had a plan and whoever scouted them got it spot on. Walter got us playing exactly the way he wanted to beat a team who were trying to play Dutch total football with players who can't play like that especially when under pressure.

Ikeme- Had very little to do, came and collected a few crosses confidently.

Coady - Looked pretty solid and more comfortable at right back than he generally does in midfield, wasn't really tested 1 on 1 as we never let them get into that situation.

Iorfa and Batth - Both solid, did what they had to do which was again very little. Well protected by the midfield 3.

Doherty - Much better, looked a threat going forward again and scored with a fantastic strike that Al-Habsi didn't see.

Evans - Suffering with some fans because he isn't Jack Price but for me he has to be in team, moves the ball quickly if he has options and defensively well positioned.

Saville- Did well again for me, could have scored but Al-Habsi made a quality save and his delivery for Mason's goal was pretty good. Did a good job with Evans and Edwards.

Edwards - Worked well as a 3 to not let Reading have any space centrally and play in to Kermorgant, did exactly as he was asked.

Mason - Works hard and makes some great runs but his finishing really isn't good enough. Couldn't really miss with his header but had 2 glorious chances, one in the first half and one in the second that he should have out away. The second was a very poor finish. Having said all that he like the others worked hard and understood what was asked of him off the ball.

Teixeira - The lad oozes class and goes past some players like they aren't there. Nearly scored a goal in the second half that would have been as good as SEB's at Charlton a few years ago but smashed it over the bar. Tired in the second half but that is to be expected. Closed down particularly well and caught Al-Habsi at least twice.

Bodvarsson - Absolute hero already, he gives everything and must be a nightmare to play against. He does a bit of everything, he can hold the ball up, flick it on, run in behind, go wide etc... Fantastic signing.

SUBS

Wallace, Price, Henry - Can pretty much sum them all up together, they didn't really need to do anything as the game was already won and we were just seeing it out in the last 20 minutes and neither of them really had an impact.
