Wolves 2 - Bristol 1 - the Matt Doherty masterclass verdict thread

Good - if not rather undeserved - win. Great to see Zyro back who should now surely push Siggy out of the team with Mason just behind him. I have a bit more confidence about this team now with two intelligent players leading the line. This season is a write-off so let's start building for next year.

Fantastic to see Matt Doherty rising out of the ashes too. He's become a real leader in the last few games.

Was in the middle of the South Bank at the final whistle some to the left were booing the performance. It is my contention the KJ is never winning the fans back
because of his shit football and his BS press releases. This doesnt really paper over the cracks we sneaked in against a very poor team. If we had lost I think Jackett
would have had some real stick, also the uncharacteristic positive substitutions were a attempt to avoid criticism in the case of a loss (we were positive!). BS
Fact our defender created and scored the goals aided by some average goalkeeping for the winner. I dont believe we have turned the corner, was much more pleased
with the Derby performance and win this could have gone bad.

Very pleased to have got the three points but it was an awful game between two very poor sides. Macdonald was a complete half-arsed disgrace in that first half.

You know that it’s gotten bad when Matt Doherty is your best player by a country mile. Awful game, barely managed a shot on target all match.

Ikeme did OK though distribution was slow and awful as per, Defence pretty solid (though barely tested apart from Iorfa losing his man on the goal) with the usual hoof ball added for good measure. Midfield Coady and McDonald (rightly subbed) completely anonymous, Saville slightly less so. Byrne and Helen offered very little and Byrne tried his best to miss the open goal he was presented with. Mason ran around but no service or end product. Subs Zyro lively for 10 minutes then fell into type with the rest. Hunte had one good run when he came on and Enohbakhare showed a few decent touches in the limited time he was given.

Atmosphere was deader than dead, complete apathy from all involved.

Jackett: Usual negative setup, more hoof ball, same old, same old basically (except at least he actually changed made some subs for once). Has to go the sooner the better (not going to happen). I got really depressed yesterday lunch time reading him talking about what we need to do in the summer to sort things out.

MOM Matt Leonardo Cafu Doherty. Watch out Euro 2016 as he has got his sights firmly set on you.

Do the final 2 subs indicate a switch in thinking for the rest of the season? Finally accepting the Top 6 is out of reach and the bottom 3 seem safely far away, so rather than plod along with the usual suspects, we plod along blooding the likes of Hunte so it at least shows the fans they are trying to achieve something out of a very poor season

1-1 would rarely see KJ throw 2 kids on to rescue the game.

One of the oldest players on the pitch, too, which is weird to think about. Batth and Ikeme the only ones older, I think.

That was my thinking before and during the game, obviously it turned out both Siggy and Le Fondre were unavailable so we had two spaces to fill. Reading his comments from after the game it would suggest he may well look to give a few more young players a run out before season end. I would however not be surprised to see both disappear from the bench on Sunday. Then with Edwards and Henry to come back I suspect we'll revert to type unfortunately.

I like the way we're going: i.e. blooding academy players/young players in general. Although I think we're all going to have to accept that infuriating mistakes will be made along the way. I think play-offs could be a realistic target next season but we do lack the financial "oomph" now to push for the top two.

Shocking game of football between two very poor sides. Another game where we've had a first half where it was impossible to tell what our plan was. Bringing Zyro on did at least give us a bit of a focal point.

Positives: Doherty had a very good second half, Hunte looked promising when he came on, Zyro did ok
Negatives: No football again, McDonald was disgracefully poor and showed no fight or desire before he got hauled off, another very poor goal to concede (majority blame to Iorfa but I'm questioning Ikeme's movement across his line again)

Kevin McDonald and Kenny Jackett wasting each others time because they are polar opposite in their thinking on how the game should be played. Where Kevin thinks Crown Green Bowling Kenny thinks bollocks to that I love Volleyball.

I don't care if they disagree on style. That is no excuse for the pathetic "performance" that MacDonald delivered last night. He was awful, and apparently couldn't care less.

That is concerning. At times this season he has looked like he couldn't care less. I'm a big fan of his and still think he can be a important part of the team developing but he needs to buck up his ideas

Macdonald clearly wants to go. We either need to get him happy playing reasonable football or sell him. He's not irreplaceable but he's our best midfielder. I'd rather sack the manager tbh.

Scott Golbourne only had to do it once to find himself dropped!
By the way, what kind of reception(if any) did Scott get?

Tim II was saying he was applauded when he took a throw in down by the South Bank

Bit of applause when he took a corner in the first half. Nothing else.

Mark Little got a bit of applause when he came on as well.

That Byrne goal gets funnier every time I see it  :icon_lol:

At the start of the season it was being blamed on the talks over a new contract, now its the style of football which is given as an explanation to why it looks as though he couldnt care less.
