Sa was superb tonight, obviously caught by Salah's unorthodox finish aside. But him coming for crosses, the low save, his throws...really very good - the mad unhinged bastard.

It has been a while since he's done something truly awful.

*friday is soon though obviously.
That save onto the post was unbelievable. Best save I've seen him make - I'd rate it higher than the one he made at Goodison Park a few years ago

Feels like I’ve spent my life watching Liverpool do that to us, so that was wonderful. And well done Edwards.

The more you look at that JRB pass for their goal the more remarkable it is. He’s picked a pass you can’t see even the second before he kicks it.

That game was pretty much Sa’s entire career in 90 minutes.
That potentially speaks well of Rob, actually. Jean knows the pass to play before he's even received the ball; that's a level of anticipation we haven't seen in years.

Ultimately it goes down as a terribly timed bad mistake, but might hint at something more positive underneath.

Note: this is a defense of Rob more than Jean. For once.

The momentum is going to be so so important, even if a lot of the squad is different next year. Only have to look at Leicester and Southampton as cautionary tales.

Also a bit of confidence for the players we're going to be stuck with anyhow, plenty who looked completely out of their depth are now playing like serviceable squad players.

Gut tells me we’ll have exerted a lot into tonight that might zap our energy Friday (cheers bbc for scheduling that)
Slot will be desperate to get some credit in the bank also. I couldn’t have done with Liverpool robbing us late in one game then getting a cosy VAR call in the other so blooding their noses once will do, be great if we could do it twice considering the luck and decisions they’ve had against over the years.

Not sure about that. Everything he kicked in the first half went into the stands. He pulled off a worldly in the second half but then let one in he should have saved a few minutes later.

He is certainly performing at a higher level now than earlier in the season, as are many of our players tbf.

This is why it’s so frustrating. It we’d just converted a couple of those draws into wins earlier in the season, we’d have been in touching distance now.

His kicking has always been and will always be shit, we should stop asking him to do it where possible. He makes really good saves on the whole and he is really good under high balls. For all his faults I doubt we'll replace him with better next season.
Rob should man up and not put Johnstone in on Friday.

We should have beaten Spurs and Brighton, and at very least drawn against Burnley

Then again had that happened, Vitor probably wouldn't have got sacked

Under Rob we should have beaten Palace away, got a point at Anfield and The Emirates and won at Old Trafford (but you would have to say we got lucky to get draws out of Forest away and Arsenal at home)

Let's see what happens when we play the shit teams again when the current tactic of staying in the game and countering when it opens up won't work. If we are competitive in those then he'll start winning me round. Not taking anything away from the last 3 home games, but they were all night matches with something of a lower team at home in the cup mentality.

West Ham are the next shit team we play and they will HAVE to win. So can see us playing on the counter there, which I think we can do.

We're not likely to dominate against anyone (we just aren't good enough in possession) but any route to victory will do. We lost 12 in a row earlier in the season!

Yep this is the next step

Agree with this, although I do think the performance against Forest was pretty good.

While we're airing grievances; I get that we've got/had 3 games in 7 days, but I really want Rob to stop fucking around with the XI so much. I know some managers subscribe to the benefits of squad rotation, but personally I would rather see Yerson, Santi, and Lad getting as much time on the pitch together as possible. It's just so fucking important to have your CBs understand each other.

On that point; Santi has benefited massively from having mobile CBs like Mosquera and Krejči flanking him.

Fucking around so much? I think he's made the bare minimum changes as we dont have a squad.
