Cutrone definitely didn't offer more than Silva but he got about a bit and was keen to get on the ball. He got himself in some good positions in the box too which was good to see. At times this season we've had Traore with the ball out wide and nobody to cross it too.

That was Nuno’s mistake last night when he subbed Adama off, we had somebody to get in the box but nobody to put it in.

That’s kinda the point, Cutrone is better than nothing, which sadly (and through no fault of his own) is often what Fabio offers.

Never noticed it before but Dendoncker makes a huge difference to our solidity. Neves is different gravy when Leander is playing.

Donk was ok tonight, without doing anything particularly good (and should have scored), but I thought Neves was excellent. In part because he’s been in good form recently, but in part because of how palace set up - there was a big gap between their pressing forwards and their defensive midfield and he had an absolute tonne of space to play in, which suited him down to the ground.

I said in the build-up thread I wanted Ruddy plus a strong team as felt we needed to try and work on some things and get some form, so very pleased with last night. Felt we played well and we look so much stronger with Dendocker playing. I

Pleased to be in Rd 4, I saw people on the transfer thread saying that with the financial impact of the recent year we might need to change expectations on spending etc, that for me is why doing well in the cup is surely something teams should concentrate on, obviously no crowd money but there will still be commercial opportunities from doing well in the cup, and it's the wrong year to be throwing them away I would say.

Interested in views of RAN - I have great hope for him - think he has the raw materials - however, he is more raw than I thought he was going to be - silly little things like falling over lots, trapping the ball 5 yards, weak in the air, letting his man get goalside - I am excited for when Jonny is back and he can see how to be solid and do the basics right because if he can get those things right he will be an excellent LB/LWB.

Feel much the same, not writing him off at all. Think my expectations of him were too high after watching for Angers v PSG and his debut for us. Starting to see him in much the same way I view Silva

Cutrone's run's outside the box are better ergo he leads the line better.

Silva's runs in the box are better, he just knows where to go and how to get there. The number of times he finds himself a yard or 2 of space is impressive for an 18 year old, as he gets more experienced those yards will see more goals.

Not sure this is correct. Cutrone has made a living (prior to coming here) of scoring goals in the box. His movement in and around the box (and outside it) is decent.

Not same type of players, Sessegnons strenght is pace and on the wing..Silva has to be strong, good in the air preferably, and pace..you will not get that from an 18 year old..he is not ready yet and everybody sees that..

IMO Silva hasn't learnt how to head the ball properly yet.

In my time I have taught many teenagers how to head the ball, obviously at a different level, but it is very much a teachable skill.
I feel it's something that once it clicks, it's like riding a bike, you never forget.

Somebody at Wolves needs to get hold of Fabio and teach him the skill; it will help his confidence in the rest of his game too.

The thing about silva though is that he does seem able to get into goal scoring positions. He’s had half a dozen really good chances this season to score from open play. I’d be more worried if he wasn’t getting these chances. It will come.

It wasn't a weird ball at all, the flight of it was pretty low the entire time and it came around the defender more so than straight over him, there was over 5 yards between him and Silva. It was a bit of an awkward height by the time it came to Silva and unfortunately he was slightly ahead of the ball by that point too, probably would've been best trying to chest it down but there was quite a bit of pace on it so there's always the risk of struggling to take enough off it and it getting away to the keeper before he can get a shot off.

Just watched it again - it definately goes over the defenders head, and then drops low.

One thing I did like last night was when we pushed Eze back from relatively high up the pitch, to the point where he ended up conceding a corner.
I get Nuno's preference for shape but I liked seeing us really pressure higher up the pitch and force the player into a mistake.

I was thinking the same. You can train harder to bulk up and practice heading, but a footballing brain is much harder to coach. Silva, we can mostly agree has great potential and needs a goal. I thought Cutrone looked OK for a ten minute cameo.
