Why are we failing to get our targets?

This seems to be the second window now where we've struggled to get our first, second and maybe third target, so why? Is it down to poor negotiations, unrealistic targets, been tight or something else?

Afobe was our #1 target, no?

The thing that rankles most is that our signings (Van La Parra aside) in the summer window have made no impact. If we aren't promoted this season and Morgan fails to invest in the squad after all of Mick and Ståle's expensive dross is off the wage bill, he'll have no further excuses to fall back on. On the other hand, for all we know the club could surprise us all and rescue the Zyro deal.

I'm not concerned at this point as I think it's this summer that we need to look to strengthen when the high earners have disappeared. I was just wondering why people thought we were missing out on a lot of our targets. I'm unsure whether we are been unrealistic our whether it's about the money we are willing to pay.

As we become more selective we target players that have offers from other clubs which means players agents haggle for the best deal possible. Usually creating a last day of the window rush as agents find time constraints make them make their minds up.

It's hard to say without knowing the facts but maybe we are being unrealistic with the money we want to pay for players or to players. On the other hand if we're sticking to our guns and people like Zyro and Wood are wanting a wage that is clearly inflated then I'm not that bothered. It's not like we haven't signed anyone at all so obviously not completely tight on wages.

It does annoy me that you see teams like Bolton in massive debt continuing to sign players and pay (presumably) big wages. Makes you wonder what the point of being run properly is.

I think we're trying to buy from a higher shelf, improving the best 11 rather than the squad. That's tricky business especially in the January window.

At least that's what I've convinced myself is happening. :)

Make that three, more Iorfa's for me.

Agree with that - suspect that the options bubbling just below the first team squad are no worse than other 'squad fillers' we could bring in to please the masses with a new name. We have done that before with no real benefit to the team or our prospects.

As someone else said if we are trying to recruit players who will improve the first team then these are always going to be in demand & therefore, harder to pin down and bring to completion.

Am happier trying to do that than just signing players to give the impression that we are active.

I'm not overly bothered, but think it's an issue that we are struggling to sign the players we are looking at.

I'm glad that KJ and the rest of the mangement team refuse to sign players just for the sake of it, I've no doubt they are working hard to improve the team but without going over the top with transfer fees and wages. If we get someone in great but if not I won't lose any sleep.

Some brave words being spoken on here. ;)

What happens if we miss out on the playoffs on goal difference? Will people still put a brave face on it, or will they say 'if only we had bought more in the Jan window'?

Buying more doesn't guarantee anything if they are no better than what we have already - won't be me saying that. Double promotions are possible, but not easy to achieve. Though double relegations are if you have the 'right' Manager :surrender:
