Good Poll!

Its such a difficult call as it depends where they end up! A wrong move could scupper the potential as could staying here to long.

I am going for Jota after much thought. Ronaldo is 34-35 and cannot go on forever and though not his natural successor he has so much natural talent and ability and an eye for goal he really could be something extremely special in the next few years. Neto and Neves are both incredibly good shouts.

Why can't these players reach their potential here?
Why do they have to move.

If we get champions league, start challenging for the title these players can achieve their full ability here

That is a good article, this sums up my feelings about Jota very well:

Startling as it was, it was still typical. What’s interesting about Jota is that he doesn’t have any clearly outstanding attributes. He isn’t unusually quick, he doesn’t have an array of skill, and he isn’t physically overwhelming. And yet he's often effective by producing moments which do seem to depend on rare abilities.

That’s what creates this perception of him as a player without proper designation. Instead of performing a specific function within games, he just seems to find a way to be useful or decisive. The trite analogy is to say that he flows into the defensive cracks. But a more detailed appreciation would reference the way he works with Jimenez - who himself isn't appreciated nearly enough as a pivot - and how he moves into the space and positions that the Mexican’s runs and distribution make available. There's a really satisfying symmetry between those two. It's one of those co-dependencies that eventually someone smart will write a mini-thesis about.

I think Jota does have one outstanding attribute, and that's determination. I remember him mentioning that when he played football as a kid he was always the smallest so he had to be the toughest, and you can see that now. That third goal on Sunday is just outstanding. He makes of fool of Moura and he's off - as the article says, taking out half the Spurs team.

I kind of understand the articles point, I see Jota as a player that plays on the very edge of his game, when hes 100% on his game hes brilliant, and everything comes off as he is now - just 5% off that (coming back from injury, etc) and those flicks and runs just don't happen for him.

I love his determination and he's a great player for us no doubt about it, perhaps there are more gifted players in terms of ability and attributes in the team, but I'm not sure theres any that make as much of those abilities, as Jota does of his.

Neves. Having someone like Moutinho alongside him will have been the best education he could have had. No reason why he can't emulate what Joao has done over the next decade. He's a very special player who keeps improving. I love the guy.

I went for Neves too. We could really do with keeping these players together for another 2-3 seasons, if possible. We will be some force (already are).

To be fair, if we secure Champions League football, why would they want to move? They look such a close unit and the Portuguese lads in particular, must be bloody loving it here.

Here come those rose tinted specs .................

I would say we are on walk of our stand walk run premier league project and run comes when we win things or keep qualifying for europe. You are right, that if that happens there is more likelihood of our best players staying. But equally thats a tall orderas it will mean breaking into the big 6 and as other have found , it is difficult to do that consistently. We are doing a damn good job of making a fist of it though as 7th should be backed up by something very similar or even better this year.

We are three points off guaranteed champions league football. It is a realistic ambition. Up to us whether we achieve it.

Difficult question to answer given the ages of the players we have - a lot can change between 19 & 30 both good & bad (I know I was not the same person at the 2 ends of that age range).

Of the current crop Neves looks as if he has the all round game to kick on, though others may well surpass him as they get more experienced.

I am just so pleased that we have enough players just now exhibiting these qualities to actually contemplate a poll on the matter

Cracking article on Jota that, really highlights that it's actually quite strange that he's so good given he's got no outstanding attributes. Kid's like a fucking bull though when he's on it.

On the ceiling, it's Neves for me. He's so young and he hasn't got a single weakness in his role, and I don't think we can say that for any of the other lads. I do think Vinagre is going to be something seriously special though, and his future will be higher up the pitch

"Most complete player now" would be a good one too.

I think I'd go Joao but so hard to not go for Raul, Rui or Boly who are all ridiculous.

Adama, simply because he is the most physically gifted player in the world. Anything else can be taught.

Utter rubbish - you only have to look at Adama choosing the wrong option on Sunday followed by Jota picking the correct one a few minutes later to know that instinct is a key attribute and can be improved but not taught.
