West Ham (A) Build Up and Matchday Thread

Wonder if anything has been put in place should a VAR official get a positve Covid test result

They have put extra rooms in the building so self isolation can be done while officiating the VAR.

Looking at the two games last night - and how poor was Villa/Blades? Mid-table Championship at best - it looked to me that plenty of players were well short of fitness and a few definitely overweight. Much may depend on how fit we are...

3 weeks pre season with no real friendlies wasn't ever going to be enough to get players close to being match fit. Keenan Davis would struggle to make Villa's bench normally but started as he looked sharpest in training. It's more about getting the season finished by August than the quality that's out there for the PL

As long as we don't get muscle injuries from the sprints, our style will help us, we covered the 13th most ground last season and that's with Cardiff and Brighton clogging their way round the pitch. It does seem that rotation is going to be significant at least in the first few games, I expect the Man C and Arsenal sides who start their next game to have 5/6 changes whereas we are likely to have no more than 2 outside of injuries.

I'm not concerned about Wolves fitness wise for the remainder of this season. My fears are more longer term and the impact of playing a season and a quarter more or less back to back with a small squad.

Has there been any teams news released yet? Do press conferences still happen?

Man City were purring last night.

I'm hoping our professionalism gives us the edge to start with and our experience with low energy pressing and recovery gives us the advantage the longer we go through the season

We will be helped by the Europa Comp being effectively (socially) distanced from the PL - we have been doing games on a similar schedule all season that the PL will be now so our squad should be better able to cope with it than other clubs who haven't

Do we think normal team for Saturday? I can’t really see anyone being hugely out of shape with our fitness team being as good as it is.

Then Barring injuries I’d be expecting Podence and Neto on for Jota and Traore at the second half drinks break - have to feel for whoever their full backs are!

To go down the lemonjelly route, f#ck em !

Not necessarily about being out of shape but if someone like Podence, Neto or Vinagre has been looking particularly sharp these past few weeks then you've got to throw them in.

Only other curve ball is if Nuno decides to go 3-5-2.

I think we'll see our most 'established' first team though.

Patrício

Boly Coady Saïss

Doherty Neves Moutinho Jonny

Traoré Raúl Jota

SUBS: Ruddy, Dendoncker, Vinagre, Neto, Podence, Kilman, Campana, Buur, Gibbs-White

Holy shit I'm excited for this.

I wonder if Nuno will want to include Donck, who's very important defensively when he plays in midfield and covers so much ground.

I remember when we had the 'winter' break that he started Donck and Neves. So could see that or 3-5-2, break against West Ham through Jota and Raul centrally (asks a lot of the wing backs mind). If we need to be more expansive we have Neto, Traore, Podence as options.

Fancies a bit of a shock.

There is often a negative vibe at London Stadium so it is possible that an absence of fans will not hurt West Ham's chances as much as it might do to other sides.

Clearly Wolves have had a much better season but the Hammers are not a bad team on their day, and are better than their position in the table suggests, so I am backing them to spring a bit of a surprise.

Lawro's prediction: 1-0

Al's prediction: The only potential problem for Wolves this season was that Nuno Espirito Santo was playing the same team week-in, week-out, but after the break they have had, they will be strong again. That issue might come back around again with the number of games to be played in such a short space of time, but it will not be a factor right now - and all United fans are watching their backs. 0-2

Edit - Al is a Manchester United fan

West Ham aren't better than their position in the table suggests.

Talks absolute shite does Lawro.

Lawro is a total c**t as always. Makes me hopeful that we can shaft his crap predictions

Ogbonna a big doubt for them, probably been their best defender this season (not a high bar I know).
