West Ham (A) 10/4: Build-Up & Match Thread

Listen to the Ryan Leister podcast as an example of people who love him as a "shithouse"
He’s not even a shithouse. His on field behaviour is just embarrassing. He’s bang average at best as a defender and his histrionics make him look like a prize twat.
I’d have Toti in the side instead of him every day of the week.

A word for West Ham's ground. I wouldn't say I like them, but I do respect them as a 'proper' club. They now play in what I can only describe as a badly designed American stadium, miles away from the pitch and even the bubbles blow backwards into the stands. Outside there are badly hung banners to try and make it look like their stadium, but in reality it looks what it is a rented place which financially is a stroke of genius, but in a footballing sense soulless.
Here's a pic from where I was stood

Love to watch us suck and love to watch people say things that make me wretch a bit

This season needs to fuck off quick

This forum used to moan when match threads were closed within a nanosecond of the whistle blowing. Now we can't be bothered to even open a verdict thread.

Nothing more to be said I guess after last night and may as well show the same lack of effort as the players.

Also a completely pointless stat as is totally dependent on how many times he's been in a position to be dribbled past. Which with how terrible we are is probably a 1000 times more than most other teams.

Based on that unsurprisingly he's also fourth in the league for players with most tackles this season.

Yep also his role/style to be aggressive in the press. If you don’t press you don’t get dribbled past…

Bit like a creative #10 having most unsuccessful passes. If you don’t play risky passes then you never fail.

Rather my point; we know JG is a good player, but he hasn't yet had a legitimately solid tactical system in which to show it consistently.

It's exactly this sort of thing that lets me continue to blame our various managers/coaches in the last few seasons moreso than the players themselves. Bad coaching can snuff out a lot.

It's not pointless, it just requires context and viewing him against other DMs. Just like you're not going to defensive effort by the total assists across a season for CBs.

If you found the season by season player for that stat more often than not it'd be a holding mid from a bottom third team. Successful tackles or duels is probably a better way to measure how effective he's been specifically.
