Welcome to Wolves Vitor Pereira

I'm sure Mendes is currently studying any possible way of selling Fabio Silva to Jeff again.

If we'd sacked GON when we should have done - I was after Villa, some before, some afterwards, everyone but the gullible or overly optimistic was weeks ago, then it would be a shit appointment

If we were going to back the manager properly in January, then I think it's a shit appointment.

As Fosun messed up the first and the second is of their own making then it's at least interesting within these self imposed/inflicted parameters.

I fear by Sunday tea time it'll be over before it's really begun though.
I do not see how it is over by Sunday tea time with 21 games left to play.

If we lose then we're 8 and change behind Leicester and looking at a run of:

Man Utd
Tottenham
Nottm Forest
Newcastle
Chelsea
Arsenal
Aston Villa
Liverpool

We aren't winning more than 2 of them and therefore a defeat on Sunday would be close to curtains, as no-one else bar possibly Everton looks close to bothering the conversation that us, Leicester and Ipswich are having (forget Southampton who are authentically worse than us).

Because this squad plus a couple of January additions doesn't give Leicester an 8 point lead and overcome it. As Deutsch says there are fundamental issues with the defensive side of our squad that run deeper than just sacking O'Neil. I'd fancy us to get more points in the second half of the season than 3 sides, but not giving at least one of them a significant head start.

It's not a deal breaker for me, but us being completely incapable of defending the most basic of situations and/or making ridiculous errors that lead directly to goals is.

And I don't think anyone is fixing that. They might make it a bit better than Gazketball in that respect but not by enough. Ask yourself how many other first XIs in the PL that any of Sa, Johnstone, Doherty, 2025 Dawson, Toti or Bueno get in. Charlie George could probably count them on the fingers of one hand, for any of them.

Agreed, we need to get to the opening of the January window in striking distance of the team in 4th from bottom and then have some reinforcements in quick time otherwise it's over for us.

Sell him with a loan back next season clause where we pay a large fee and his wages I reckon.

He’s scored 5 in 12 y’know…

Well obviously if we lose Sunday it will still be possible to survive, but it will be much, much tougher, we'd be 3 wins behind Leicester. I'm not expecting him to have us competetive straight away, there's a lot of work on the training field.

It isn’t over, but you’re now climbing Kilimanjaro rather than snowdon.

If we can get over the next 9 games 7-10 points whilst having a decent window, and signs of progress with new gaffer we could be ok.

January window is massive.

We need a Lop style run at home. The January window and VP’s ability to sort the defence will determine whether that is possible. I am not overly optimistic but I also think it is premature to say we are dead and buried just yet.

We haven't been shipping goals though because of Ossie Ardiles style tactics. I mean the tactics have been nonsense and the set piece stuff is unreal.

But fundamentally we don't have good defenders. Semedo is a good defender. RAN can be but not often enough. The rest are crap and the keepers are horrific.

Vitor isn't fixing that, and also Lopetegui had Neves and Moutinho to stick in front of the back four.

FFS DW, I've had about 24 hours of very (very) slight optimism and now you've gone and blown the arse out of even that.💥

While i agree that our centre backs aren’t good i do actually think a lot of it comes down to tactics and exposing their flaws. Under O’Neil we constantly left our centre backs isolated with a lack of protection, usually higher up the pitch than they needed to be which added to the chaos. This is the first thing Vitor has to sort out, stop exposing their worst attributes and give them less to do. On the set pieces thing too, it’s definitely a tactical issue that started to be exposed in February of last season and hasn’t been rectified, it’s been allowed to get worse with and without a set piece coach. The way we set up at set pieces mean we’re always going to be in danger if the ball beats the first 3 men.

It’s a big task but i think it’s really underestimated how much tactically was wrong by the end asking players to do far too much and as i say therefore exposing their flaws rather than shielding them from the exposure.

I don't actually think the set piece thing is tactical. We don't have a single strong dominant CB to take command of those situations, we get bullied, blocked easily and apart from a 34 year old we don't have anyone I fancy in duals from those situations.

Tbf we only had passive Max different last year and we went loads of games before we conceded from a set piece. Maybe he wasn't so passive after all?

It's a shame his first game isn't against Arsenal or Liverpool where we are likely to lose irrespective of the situation. In many ways Leicester is as bad as it could have been. He took training for the first time today so will only have 3 sessions, so not a lot he can work on or try and fix for a match which is so crucial whilst not knowing if your best player will be available.

They surely won't issue a ban for Cunha tomorrow. I think he might be on a flight to Rio on Monday though.

Given that the chances of us remaining in the Premier League were pretty slight when he agreed to take the job, I’d like to think, if he proves to be half decent, that he’ll stick around to try and get us straight back with whatever he has left to work with.

While the make up of our team is like you say not really dominant in the air we were brilliant off set pieces until Feb. Something then changed (how we set up) and we concede constantly with the ball to the back post. It’s definitely a massive tactical issue.

A very low key announcement. No word on the backroom team he’s brought with him?
