Nah mate. You're behind the times. Matt Doherty has been approached to be Head Coach and Captain (in old parlance: Player Manager) on a five year contract in a new labour and cost cutting procedure.

I've often wondered how someone like Ten Haag would do in a struggling club with far fewer resources than what he would previously been used to .
I actually think he might do quite well in fact . His record prior to United wasn't bad at all with a few different clubs and tighter budgets than United .
Sometimes having a much smaller and less talented squad can help you as a coach rather than hinder you , as you aren't spending half your time trying to figure out which player to play in which position , trying to manage big egos , trying to keep everyone happy .
You know what you have and you must work with it - there will be far less tinkering with the team as you don't have the resources to do that .

On Robbie Keane - I can well believe that he has applied for the job . He is well known to be desperate to return back to this part of the world . He couldn't pick up a managerial gig initially and ended up in Israel , having previously worked as an assistant manager in various roles . He is now in Hungary .
He is doing quite well , but he knows full well that he need English League experience at a managerial level to really test himself and make a name for himself .

Didn't he go a bit toxic/bonkers at Leverkusen very quickly though? Maybe Utd broke him

It did , but he was there for only a few games . A lot of his issues seemed to be off field with playing and non playing staff . Maybe he just needed a longer break away from the game .

I can imagine part of the issue for Ten Haag was that he was relacing a very popular manager at Leverkusen. That's generally quite unusual and definitely not the case here. Whoever comes in will get the "not Vitor Pereira" bounce with the squad I think.

But........ I don't think there's any chance at all that Ten Haag is coming here

I'll be honest, I never realised he went to Bayer Leverkusen. Just read the wiki summary, doesn’t sound pretty!

It does not read well for sure , but I think Ashford has a good point . He was replacing a man who had won them their first ever League title . Alonso was a God to them - a very hard act to follow no matter what you did .
Ten Haag too always has that sullen appearance - doesn't tend to smile a lot , Alonso on the other hand always looked happy .

If O'Neill couldn't do it with the players that he had, why the fuck, does anyone think he can do it with this badly construed bunch?
Beggars belief....
