Ukraine

Europe will need to raise defence spending and collaborate more closely than before. UK are the only nation in a position to lead Europe militarily. Be interesting to see if Starmer steps up. Mike Martin MP is at the Munich conference now and says there's almost no UK presence.

The UK and EU are not giving Ukraine money, they are loaning Ukraine money. They already have the rebuilding of Ukraine planned. For Ukraine to pay the UK and the EU back, they will raise a lot of that money through Ukraine's rich mineral resources supply.
Everybody wants a part of Ukraine's mineral resources, meanwhile tens of thousands of young Ukrainian men lose their lives on the battlefields. Of course, all the players are claiming they are doing it for other reasons.

It was always likely that to live up to his pre-election hype that Trump would try for an early end to the war and the only way that was ever going to happen was selling Ukraine down the river. Tragic but inevitable.
 
Two dangerous characters treating Ukraine like a small piece of real estate.
Having NATO troops on the ground in Ukraine as peacekeepers is very dangerous, puts everything on a knife edge. Also allows error, misinformation and misjudgment to lead to catastrophic consequences. Almost certain the plan is to allow eastern Ukraine to fall under the Russian sphere and Western Ukraine to remain looking west, whether eastern Ukraine would be just annexed I’m not sure. Seems like a modern day carving up of Germany.

I agree with you, but Ukraine was never going to take back the land they lost. It is Ukrainians who are sacrificing their lives in huge numbers.
The Problem for me is that Russia is now calling the shots. They are dictating who can protect Ukraine from further incursions.
The world has changed massively. Russia, the US and China have most of the mineral resources for modern technology and also a massive military advantage over Europe. They also have a huge advantage because their countries speak with one voice, where we in Europe are very divided about what do do next.

Incredible how the usual 'National sovereignty' morons (Farage, Trump) seem to think that Russia should have a veto over the national security arrangements of its neighbours.

The only way a quick end of the war happens is Trump gives Russia what they want. I don’t think Trump cares about what that means for Ukraine and he appears quite happy to blackmail them over mineral resources to give them any kind of future security.

I am just being realistic about the situation. I don't agree with what is happening.

I agree with what you say, but Europe paid for their aid to Ukraine, from the money that has been taken from Russian bank accounts. Europe could also benefit from Ukraine joining the EU, which Russia doesn't have a problem with.
