UEFA Nations League & Euro 2020 Qualification

Damn, I have a ticket for the last 16 game at Wembley!!

Pope gives me far more confidence than Pickford. He has presence.

Kosovo are better than that.

Hopefully that's the last we see of Rice in a midfield role. He's nowhere near good enough.

Doherty having a solid game against Denmark. Really getting forward and causing problems in the 2nd half

Doc's defensive failings as a right back proves costly.

Ireland don't deserve to lose this but they are fookin woeful in the final third. Leon Clarke would improve their attacking threat...

Too little to late unfortunately, decent effort but about 10 minutes too late game time wise.

Refs are jokers. Books a player for time wasting in added on time and then blows up immediately when the original added time is over.

So Doherty at fault for their goal but cancels it out with his first goal for Ireland to cap off a fine performance. Gutted not to win that but not winning against Georgia killed us

Drives me nuts. European refs always do this or similar. When you watch CL or EL games the added time is always so much shorter than a PL game even when the time wasting and slowing down the game are much more prevalent. He wasted nearly a minute taking that GK. Sooner they make it a 60 minute game with a stopped clock the better.

Ireland had fewer shots through their campaign than Luxembourg did, despite having Gibraltar in the group. Sums up where that squad is.

That's why Doc would be a ridiculous signing for anyone as a RB. He actually played alright but he can't do the defensive basics in that position and he never will be able to. Not a problem for us as he's never tasked with defending in those areas.

That game sums up Dohertys overall game. Good going forward, not a great passer but catches opponents out when he cuts inside and he has a great eye for a through ball in the final third, but his defensive game is woeful. Just before their goal you can see him marking Braithwait half arsed, not really paying attention and as soon as Braithwait goes, Matt makes a half arsed attempt to follow and then stops completely. Doesn't even try. Other times, when we were pinned back in our own half and trying to clear, Doherty would play poor balls to a marked man, putting them under pressure not lose possession.

Beats me why Nuno keeps playing him? :) :)

I agree about Doherty switching off while defending, nothing has changed there, but disagree about his passing. Bar one misplaced crossfield ball, in the second half it was excellent.

Doc still has to defend for us and does it well. One of his weak spots was being beaten at the far post and he rarely gets done there now.
He was never good at following runs across the defence but he has had no need to work on that as its not part of his job for us.

Because hes not tasked with any defending really. He provides an outlet for Bennett and is basically an attacking player for us, which he does well and credit to him for that.

Of course he defends for us! He does it well too. The problem he has with the Irish team and I hate to say it but they're not very good.
