Deutch is right that mid 90s was a freak one off thing with stoichkov, ivanov, balakov, kostadinov, lechkov, mahailov, etc. Bulgaria has had some good players waay before then (gundi) and pretty much only berbatov since. BFA has been run into the ground, mainly due to mihailov (the 94 keeper with the rug) and his cronies. Pure corruption and embezzlement, pretty much like everything else in this country. I know berbatov doesnt wanna live here cus mafia bosses threatened him and his family. Last year there was a scandal when milen petrov had his bank account drained by his personal banker whom he was banging, lost 2 million euro wont get it back. Zero money for young players, zero public interest, the successful sides like ludogorets rely on foreigners. A lot of promising youngsters destroyed their careers with alcohol, drugs and whores (ie bandalovski) peaked too early (ivan ivanov) or just fizzled out (georgi milanov who was touted as the next balakov). Its sad.
