He can’t back out as he knows it looks like defeat, he can’t cut a deal because the deal won’t be good for him, he can’t deploy ground troops as he knows it’ll be a disaster and long drawn out process which they may well lose anyway.
He’s stupidly underestimated the size of Iran and it’s population and those that are still in charge aren’t stupid and are highly motivated.

He has his out now...the public want him to end it and he doesnt want to upset them.
He wants to carry on and get that oil but the good people of the USA don't, so he has to do what they want

It’s as if Trump genuinely believes the US can survive and even thrive if the Straits of Hormuz remain shut. They might have there own oil and plenty more on hand in Venezuela but US companies can’t make money selling all sorts to the rest of the world if the rest of the world has no money. They’re not insulated from the inevitable global recession, they actually have the most to lose.
