Trump

Jesus Christ, to think my brother in law nearly stayed in the Navy. I’m so glad he doesn’t have to take orders from these.

It was hard enough knowing he’d lead a sub through the Suez during peacetime.

I'd say kidnapping 66 civil servants in 1979 is pretty warlike.
I think you need to read about what the CIA/USA/UK did in 1953. THAT was what started Iran on the path to where it is now. US intervention is ALWAYS the start of bad things. If you know why those hostages were taken Iran is not the bad guy who initiated things.

Iran had a perfectly fine social democracy with a popular, elected government who decided that they wanted to take back control of their own oil. Oil companies (BP I'm looking at you) decided they didn’t like Iran having control of their own oil, they wanted to keep the massive profits they were making and so the CIA manufactured unrest and overthrew the elected government and installed the vicious Shah who dutifully allowed the oil profits to keep on flowing.

After the Islamic revolution ousted the Shah, the US spirited him away along with hundreds of millions of dollars that Iranians thought should be returned. Which was where the hostages come in. Everything going on in Iran now can have a line drawn straight back to US intervention and oil companies profits.

Absolutely, thats kind of the point I was trying to make, there are lots of 'threads' to the troubles in that area. You can go back to WW1 if you want, Britain and France trying to carve up the Arabian peninsula and surrounding areas to get their hands on all that lovely oil.
That still leaves a horrendous regime in place currently. Pretty much all of the other states in the middle east hate Iran (the leaders at least). America and Israel trying to out evil them was never going to work.
Tbh I've no ideas how to fix it all.

There is no fixing it. For a start, Jerusalem is a major cultural centre for two religions that have been fighting over the holy land on and off since 1095. Good luck squaring that particular circle.

It is looking that way. He is running out of countries to fly over for his little bombing raids. France and Italy appear to have joined Spain in telling him no.

The bloke is unravelling as he just thought everyone else would support this bollocks.

He’s used to bullying opponents into submission and it still hasn’t dawned on him that bullying hasn’t and won’t work with a country like Iran. It’s ridiculous that former allies will be grovelling to Iran and telling them that they’re not like America, please stop sending drones across the Middle East and let the tankers through. In the meantime Israel is doing everything it can to make peace less likely. The only hope in the short term is pressure from within America to make him see sense with both Iran and Israel. I won’t hold my breath as it takes something major to fight back against someone who has been bullying you for so long and too many Republicans are suffering Stockholm syndrome.

On the contrary, this is the most reliable we’ve ever been; you can completely rely on Trump trying to fuck you over in the stupidest way possible.

How Congressional Republicans don’t see the damage this is doing is beyond my comprehension. I couldn’t have imagined them all just happily letting the regime gobble up all the power.

Is this how the rest of the world gets radicalised against USA?
Gets?

People are very quickly going to realise that the US has massively made life worse for the majority of people in the world. Most Americans are pretty oblivious of the rest of the world so probably don’t really care, they are also pretty insulated from the rising prices. Eventually they might realise but it will be too late.

The state visit is going ahead; it's got the potential to be enormously embarrassing, particularly if manages his usual Oval office press pack Q&A

Its hugely problematic. Call off the visit and Trump will have an absolute shitfit and do god knows what.

I suspect Charlie will just keep a dignified silence, do some handshakes and then fuck off out of there asap. Maybe chuck the cunt a spare crown or something.
