I guess I figured that with the refineries right there you'd be somewhat insulated from the normal jiggery-pokery of gas prices. Obviously, the current goings on are not "normal", as such.

The simple fact is that the oil companies are future-proofing against future supply issues by hitting the price now. All those refinieries and oil storage depots they own are pretty much brim full with supply paid for at the lower oil retail prices before Trump kicked all this shit off.

If they buy oil from the oil-fields now the increased price will start to have an impact on them in about a month. So the price rises now are a piss-take.

It always amazed me that there isn't a southern overland pipeline in Saudi so that the tankers can fill at Jeddah and use the Red Sea rather than the Straits of Hormuz. Of course, you still have to get past the Houthis and Somalis on that route, which are another two sets of extremely disaffected people that Trump likes to bomb.

It's okay though. I'm sure Venezuelan oil suddenly has a very tempting price point so that he can make a fuck-tonne of money out of it.

S.A. usually one of the less expensive cities, but that graph is not too dissimilar to here. Was $2.40, this morning $3.00, jumped to $3.20 while I was trying to pay (the bastards!).
