Trump

And to come out and say that the Russian missile and drone attacks after the US stopped sharing the real time defence intel is something everyone would have done......sounds like he was deliberately giving the Russians a window for an attack that would force Ukraine to the table.

Strange behaviour from someone who claims to want to stop the war because so many people are dying. He only gives a toss because he said he’d stop it and now realises the only way of doing so quickly is pull the rug from under Ukraine.

It'll always be mental to me that the American choice over the last 30 years has included

Mr President Bush, then his son.

Mr President Clinton then his wife

Michelle Obama appeared to dip her toes occasionally too.

Mr President Trump then potentially his son.

These family dynasties don't seem healthy and clearly not a right/left issue.

And that's before you get onto the last two presidents taking office after surpassing the US average life expectancy.

Personality over Party, we've only really seen it over here with Johnson, whatever you think of our other PMs they have risen to the top of their Party organically. In America with the right influencers and deep enough pockets you can buy the nomination. That's been the case since at least Joe Kennedy decided one of his kids was going to to President. Maybe predates that, my pre war American history isn't strong enough to know

From Billy Bragg;

Tяump’s betrayal of the Ukrainian people has been heartbreaking to witness. Everybody wants the conflict to end, but any notion that Tяump was seeking a just peace has been shattered over the past week. It’s clear that all he really wants is the kudos of being the peacemaker and the reward of the Nobel Peace Prize. Never underestimate Tяump’s capacity for jealousy: Obama won the Peace Prize just for being nice, so Doиald demands that he should get one too.

The belligerent treatment of President Zelensky in the Oval Office was shocking to watch. The pettiness of those who think they are world’s most powerful men was frankly embarrassing. Who tells you off for not saying thank you, other than your mother? After they scolded Zelensky for not wearing a suit and tie, I thought what’s next? You didn’t bring us any flowers or a box of chocolates?

It would be laughable if it wasn’t so deadly serious, but worse was to come. Sending Zelensky away having humiliated him in front of the world’s media was troubling enough, but Tяump’s decision to stop sharing battlefield intelligence with the Ukrainians is of a much greater magnitude: it will cost lives of innocent civilians if incoming Russian missiles can no longer be detected.

This sudden reversal of American policy toward Ukraine has inspired numerous theories about Tяump’s apparent support for Vladimir Putin. Some claim the US President was recruited by the KGB: Tяump is Agent Krasnov. Others simply assume that Putin has some ‘kompromat’ that gives him leverage over Tяump.

I think it’s more likely that the opposite is true. Tяump’s despicable treatment of the Ukrainian people is based on the fact that he has no leverage over Putin whatsoever. I wouldn’t be surprised to discover that, when Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov met with Marco Rubio in Saudi Arabia two weeks ago, ostensibly to set the terms for negotiated peace, he told the American delegation that they can fuck off. There will be no compromise from the Kremlin.

When Rubio reported back to his boss, Tяump realised that his prospects for the Peace Prize were going south. So he did what all bullies do: he picked on the weakest kid. He and his mates went to find Zelensky, grabbed him by the lapels, slammed him against the wall and threatened him with physical harm if he didn’t play ball.

I think this better explains the situation that has unfolded over the past couple of weeks. Despite a much vaunted phone call between the two leaders, we have heard nothing from Tяump of the terms that Putin is prepared to consider as the basis for a ceasefire, presumably because there are none. And when confronted with the fact that Russia has been pounding Ukrainian cites with missiles and drones since the American’s withdrew access to military intelligence, Tяump just shrugs his shoulders and says Putin is just doing what anyone else would do in the circumstances.

Does that sound like someone who has the ability to bring Russia to the negotiating table?

Tяump built his reputation on being the greatest deal maker of modern times, yet his record suggests he has no negotiating skills whatsoever. His only tactic is brute force and a confounding

Explaining Trump's actions yesterday:

► Trump was first compromised by the Russians back in the 80s. In 1984, the Russian Mafia began to use Trump real estate to launder money and it continued for decades. In 1987, the Soviet ambassador to the United Nations, Yuri Dubinin, arranged for Trump and his then-wife, Ivana, to enjoy an all-expense-paid trip to Moscow to consider possible business prospects. Only seven weeks after his trip, Trump ran full-page ads in the Boston Globe, the NYT and WaPO calling for, in effect, the dismantling of the postwar Western foreign policy alliance. The whole Trump/Russian connection started out as laundering money for the Russian mob through Trump's real estate, but evolved into something far bigger.

► In 1984, David Bogatin — a Russian mobster, convicted gasoline bootlegger, and close ally of Semion Mogilevich, a major Russian mob boss — met with Trump in Trump Tower right after it opened. Bogatin bought five condos from Trump at that meeting. Those condos were later seized by the government, which claimed they were used to launder money for the Russian mob. (NY Times, Apr 30, 1992)

► Felix Sater is a Russian-born former mobster, and former managing director of real estate conglomerate Bayrock Group LLC located on the 24th floor of Trump Tower. He is a convict who became a cooperator for the FBI and other agencies. He grew up with Michael Cohen, Trump's former "fixer" attorney. Cohen's family owned El Caribe, which was a mob hangout for the Russian Mafia in Brooklyn. Cohen had ties to Ukrainian oligarchs through his in-laws and his brother's in-laws. Felix Sater's father had ties to the Russian mob. This goes back more than 30 years.

► Trump was $4 billion in debt after his Atlantic City casinos went bankrupt. No U.S. bank would touch him. Then foreign money began flowing in through Bayrock. Bayrock was run by two investors: Tevfik Arif, a Kazakhstan-born former Soviet official who drew on bottomless sources of money from the former Soviet republic; and Felix Sater, a Russian-born businessman who had pleaded guilty in the 1990s to a huge stock-fraud scheme involving the Russian mafia. Bayrock partnered with Trump in 2005 and poured money into the Trump organization under the legal guise of licensing his name and property management.

► Semion Mogilevich was the brains behind the Russian Mafia. Mogilevich operatives have been using Trump real estate for decades to launder money. That means Russian Mafia operatives have been part of his fortune for years, that many of them have owned condos in Trump Towers and other properties, running their operations out of Trump's crown jewel.

► One of the most important things that is often overlooked is that the Russian Mafia is part and parcel of Russian intelligence. Russia is a mafia state. That is not a metaphor. Putin is head of the Mafia. So the fact that they operated out of the home of a president of the United States is deeply disturbing.

An armed man has been shot after a "confrontation" with the Secret Service just outside of the White House. Apparently, not a fatal shot. In an undisclosed area hospital, presumably under heavy surveillance.

Brb moving to Illinois
;-)
Actually, there's a concentration of descendants of Luxembourgish emigrants in Wisconsin. Might be an idea for them to secede and become an overseas protectorate of Luxembourg. Anything goes eh? ;-)

I've long held that the letter 'x' is sorely underrepresented in US state names.

Go for it. Just contact GoogleMaps and make an edict.

Renaming Maryland as Marxland would be an amusing start.

It's all this level now in Trumpton...

Give it time, musks only been in charge a couple of months, got to dismantle the government first before renaming shit X

That’s an X at the end, not a kiss obviously, although I’ve had to clarify just in case

"Be quiet, small man" are definitely not the words of someone with a massive inferiority complex...

Trump's just castrated him in front of the entire Cabinet (could be theater, but still) so I guess he needs to swing his dick a bit to feel better.
