Trump

Lots of UK commentators on US politics looking pretty out of touch this morning

I think we tend to vastly underestimate the draw of conservatism in many electorates across the world.

Lots of people seemingly voting for Trump not necessarily as a personality, but as a way of voicing disagreement with economic/social orthodoxy represented by the Democrats and all their star power support.

Some genuinely see him as a bastion of world peace and family values...

He's good for big business as he'll cut their taxes and higher interest rates are good for financial institutions profits

Trump lost ground with white voters compared to 2020. Gained ground with latinos and blacks. Doubled his vote with black men.
Latinos of my wife's generation voted D for equal rights. Their sons and grandsons are voting R for lower taxes. I'm guessing the same applies to African Americans.

Not aimed at you, but lower taxes don't equal lower cost of living when you're funding them to a degree with import duties.

I'm not disagreeing with you, just repeating the words my wife used after speaking with several of her cousins last night.

Some of the vote share stats they've just shown on Sky are really illuminating. He's increased his vote share in so many places, and with so many demographics. It's going to be a pasting by the end of it. Popular vote, over 50%, college, house, senate, the fucking lot.

Glad I’m getting the hell out of here later this week, not coming back either. Condolences to those who don’t have that option.

Of course that's not an option. This is my home. It's filled with bigots and racists and pieces of shit but turning tail would be an abdication.

If there is no resistance here, there won't be enough elsewhere.

Apologies. I'm quite angry today. You didn't deserve that evil, Tredders.

I did not see that evil so no dramas.

Honestly I don't know if anger, or any action, will change anything. People saw what he was and still voted for him. Fuck them, they deserve what comes.

Along with the rest of the World some with more direct consequences than others.

But as we found with Johnson - you can have tens of millions of people who think he's an absolutely enormous cunt and they suffer through no fault of their own.
This is the thing really. And even the people who voted for him... despicable as they may be, and willfully ignorant; they may suffer equally, even if they don't understand why.

People are also allowed to have different opinions and priorities...that's democracy
