I live in an atrociously racist oligarchy, but one in which the majority are still (thankfully) against Trump.

He has the Republican nomination locked up, but he is the sort of politician that won't unite the party behind him (ie, those who didn't vote for him in the primaries won't vote for him in the general). I think we'll dodge this bullet, but some of the damage has already been done by exposing just how bigoted a lot of this country is.

What's the general opinion of Hillary over there?

The United States is a democracy, and all political figures are allowed to hold rallies. I am surprised that anyone would support the use of violence to stop free speech.

Strange thing is, how it's often the extreme left that causes violence at political meetings. Makes you wonder who the real haters are!

Violence and extremism often go hand in hand whether it is left or right. I would suggest the violence seen before the Trump rally was evidence that when those extremes meet the likely outcome is violence...from both sides.

It was the left who rose against Hitler in Germany, often violently. It was the left who rose against apartheid South Africa, often violently.

As Del says, give evil enough oxygen eventually someone will try and put out the fire - not always by peaceful means.

There is very little difference between the extreme Left and Right, they are both fascists and are against freedom of speech.

I agree. However free speech comes with a responsibility. Trump is railroading free speech and I despair at those defending him.

In a democracy you can use your vote if you disagree with people, not violence.
I defend his right to speak even if I don't agree with what he says. These thugs are not defending socialism, but showing how easily they are manipulated by the media.
