But there could be a pan-European alliance established and completely exclude the US. Expel all of their military personnel from Europe and shut down their bases here. It absolutely could and should be done.

I don't think there are any European politicians brave enough to take Trump on though. They all are more likely to kowtow to him.

I don’t think so. Russia is a paperweight and China is more interested in selling than shooting. Though I suppose Xi could easily change that, I don’t think he would. For the time being China have no real strategic advantage to gain by claiming land to their west.

The geopolitics of Asia (and the South China Sea, particularly) are very close to getting wildly upended though, I think.

Conservatives here have also fooled themselves into thinking that Europe doesn’t spend on defense because y’all are woke or something. In reality, I’d say you just haven’t needed to, because us jolly old ‘Muricans have been extremely willing to trade that spend for bases in just about every fucking country on Earth, whilst also complaining that we shouldn’t be (don’t be in NATO but do have the military there, that kind of nonsense).

They will be shocked if they ever realize that the rest of the world is perfectly capable of fucking us off.

They forget as well that if you have to leave European bases, you won’t be able to dish out “freedom” in the Middle East, the air tankers will have no stops to refuel, transport has nowhere to store stuff, Egypt has an agreement with you, but that’s quite a bit further in one go than crossing the Atlantic and landing in Scotland at prestwick, or lakenheath in England
