If you think that something as trivial as an election or democracy is going to get rid of him you haven't been paying close enough attention. His regime has absolutely no intention of having an election in 4 years time.
 
Also, it seems that Mississippi and Alabama had public holidays to celebrate Confederate Day. Nothing shouts 'public holiday' like celebrating slavery.
 
Trump has signed an executive order to find a legal way of deploying the military in States that don't comply with his rules. Martial law.

I’ll just say that Confederate Memorial Day is more complicated than that (it’s observed in North Carolina, but not a state holiday like in Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, and Tennessee).

Basically states that still wish they weren't part of the Union and would still be happy to have slavery.
