Ok, need to take my mind of other stuff.
5 (or more) cover versions you think are as good or better than the original. Original in brackets.

1. Blinded by the Light....Manfred Manns Earth Band (Springsteen).
2. Woodstock....Mathew's Southern Comfort (Joni Mitchell)
3. This Flight Tonight....Nazareth (also Joni)
4. Tainted Love.....Imelda May (Gloria Jones)
5. House of the Rising Sun....Frigid Pink (famously The Animals but much older than that)

I prefer the Patti Smith version of 'Because the Night' although she recorded it first, Springsteen wrote the first part of it but gave it to Smith cos he couldn't finish it.

I also prefer the Go Go's version of 'Our Lips are Sealed' co written by Jane Weidlin and Terry Hall but The Fun Boy 3 didn't release till after .

Not sure about my top 5, but this is definitely the top 1

Reactions: b3h
Suspicious minds- Elvis ( mark James)
Ziggy stardust - Bauhaus ( David bowie)
Twist and shout - Beatles ( Isley brothers)
Hallelujah-Jeff Buckley ( Leonard Cohen)
The air that I breathe -kd Lang ( Albert Hammond)

That’s just off the top of my head without a great deal of thought

Nathan Jones Venus - Bananarama
With a Little Help from my Friends - Joe Cocker
The Man Who Sold the World - Nirvana
Santa Claus is Coming to Town - Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O'connor

I’m sure this thread has been done before but I’ll still have to think of a top five.
Step On by the Happy Mondays and Only love can break your heart by St Etienne will be on there.
Damn you hay fever.

Can't think of stuff off the top of my head right now other than these:

All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
It's My Life - No Doubt
Twist & Shout - The Beatles

To start with
Stairway to heaven - Far Corporation
Little help from my friends - joe cocker
Nothing compares to you - Sinead Oconnor

The Sound of Silence-Disturbed
Hallelujah-Jeff Buckley
Hurt-Johnny Cash
Zombie-Bad Wolves
Sweet Jane-Cowboy Junkies

Gonna cast another vote for the Bauhaus version of Ziggy Stardust, great cover.

Placebo's version of Running UpThat Hill has long been one of my favourite covers, well before Stranger Things reinvigorated the song!

Hazy Shade of Winter by The Bangles. Didn't like them or most of their stuff, but this is a great cover.

Song to the Siren by This Mortal Coil. Haunting version of an already great song by Tim Buckley (Jeff's superior IMO father).

That's Entertainment by The Wonder Stuff. Great song, great cover.

Hurt - Johnny Cash
Hallelujah - Jeff Buckley
Live and let Die - GnR
Sound of silence - Disturbed
Lake of Fire - Nirvana

I’ll add in
Nobody does it better-Radiohead ( Carly Simon)
Eloise-the damned ( Paul and Barry Ryan)
Kiss- Tom Jones (Prince)
Get ready -ash ( temptations?)
Withering heights- china drum (Kate bush)
Love machine-arctic monkeys (girls aloud) they were the biggest band on the planet at that time, did a Jo Whiley mid morning radio session and covered this.
Street spirit-the darkness (Radiohead)

No one for Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm?

I’m going to end up coming back and throwing the odd track in here and there, take the piss but this is worthy, and responsible for the original band’s resurgence, that’s a good thing before you argue, you’ll be wrong anyway!
Abbaesque ep-erasure (err abba obviously)

Love machine-arctic monkeys (girls aloud) they were the biggest band on the planet at that time
Were they heck :D

In 2006, really? Their first album came out in January of that year.
