I wouldn't directly compare O'Neill to Lage, but there's probably only Luton or Sheff U who'd even consider appointing him outside of us so there's a similarity there. I read, but don't have the detail to support it that Bournemouth's results were a lot better than the underlying stats so there's another similarity to season 1 Lage there. That said, keeping that squad up was a tremendous achievement.

I can't help but think we should be aiming higher though and least be having a conversation with Potter or Kieran McKenna, but share the scepticism about whether they'd come. We could afford compo in theory for a manager further down the pyramid given the likely delta between what we'd pay them and Lopetegui's team without knowing what the severance packge for him will be
