The Velotard Thread.

I bought a chain cleaner, which is great. I use Screwfix No Nonsense Degreaser for the drive train and car shampoo for the frame.

Flipping brakes are squealing again, if anyone has a cleaning plan which stops that it would be great.
No such thing 😁

If it's wet, they squeak.

That I'm ok with, the raging screeeech gets right on my nerves. I did get drowned this morning so I guess it partly my fault.
They must be contaminated with oil/grease. Probably sprayed up off the road. If you find a way of decontaminating your pads, then you could become a very rich man. Otherwise... New pads.

Yep, its just annoying as they're only a few months old.

35,000 bikes up for auction, plus everything else from Moore large

Rim brake or disc?
Degreaser on the rims wipe off with a rag or kitchen roll, do it a couple of times.
Discs, degrease the discs, if the discs still squeal, pads out, rub on a bit of sandpaper, refit, sorts 60-70% of the time.
It’s the time of year

Its very difficult to see the frame size. Would quite like an MTB

am quite sorely tempted to see if I can acquire a decently priced e-bike there tbh

I went up to that auction house last year as a favour to someone to pick a load of home gym stuff up. Much of it was lockdown returns that had been part assembled, boxes open with bits missing and suchlike

There are probably some bargains to be had, but just be VERY careful to be sure you’re getting a complete bike and check what happens if you get a dud.

My mate was planning on selling a load of stuff on but he was very quiet about the outcome afterwards and I’d be surprised if he didn’t lose money.

Not saying don’t do it, just be careful.

Just as background to this in case it helps (sorry if it’s all obvious): a sad story, some comfort for those looking to buy a bike and a warning…

It’s all being auctioned as ML went bust last week, which is very sad in the trade as they were a great, helpful bunch with a lot of history. So the comfort is that all those Forme bikes will be boxed and ready to go, they’re not dodgy goods by any stretch. Of course though, you can forget about any warranty for Forme as they were a brand wholly owned by ML. Solid bikes though. Other brands they just distributed (E.g. Tern) so you should have no issue there if warranty becomes a question.

Tern bikes have got a new uk distributor, was already being sorted before Moore large went, but yea all the bikes will be brand new in boxes straight from the warehouse, as will everything else getting sold, I’m waiting for the bike tools to come up, they were uk distributor for a couple of good brands.

three quarters of the way to work today, travelling down a slope, coasting but slowing down and approaching a junction. started pedalling to increase speed, and nothing.
no idea what could have occurred, but essentially unable to propel the bike.
only had it serviced with a load of repairs about 4 weeks ago.
even more annoying is the bike repair shop at work doesn't appear to be open today.
not looking forward to pushing it home.

Keef, get peddling to wherever LJ works

Does the chain still turn the cassette?
