The Velotard Thread.

Wait a couple of months, then you can pick up a 2018-spec bike at bargain prices as shops will need to make space for the 2019 rollout.

You be doing it again mate?

I'm approaching needing a new chain again. I've been putting off new tyres foir a few months, but I'm absolutely fucking skint at the mo. Parents have agreed to cover the cost for my birthday in a month. Hoping I can keep the bike together until then!

Change that chain before it chews up your rear cassette mate. Not worth scrimping on the £10 now to have to spend £50 later....

I'll defo try for the Velo. I imagine it might be a bit of a lottery to get a place, depending on how popular the pre-registration is. I imagine it will cost a pretty penny too. Last year's was £75, which I would be happy to pay, but wouldn't want to pay too much more.

My one concern is that it's fairly early in the season, and if I attempted 100 mile in May of this year after the drop in fitness over the winter then I might struggle to make it round! I need to stay in good shape over the next off-season I think. Might be time for an indoor trainer.....?

Yeah I’ve got a Tacx. Pretty good over the winter, but big off fuck off fan is essential. Get a trainer wheel and cheap cassette so you don’t ruin your good ones on your bike

The B'Kool is looking like the best "bang for buck" smart trainer out there at the moment. I'd want one with interactive resistance that can be controlled from an app such as Zwift to simulate climbing etc.

Hey, Johnny, you still developing those skull caps???

The route this year looks shit mate by all accounts. It's in appendix a here:

Good digging sir. Will take a read now.

Yeah, that route looks pap. Goes through the worst side of the Midlands for some reason. Might not bother with it, tbf, especially not for £75 (or however much it's going to cost). Got something bigger planned for next year, so will focus my plans on that.

Only just seen it mate. Will take a look now.

Was meant to be riding a sportive over the Malverns on Sunday, but it's just been cancelled because of the weather :(

Holy shit, just seen the Velo South has been cancelled too. Ouch!

Apparently the company that run the velo thing are right bastards. They advertise it as a charity event, but give nothing to charity themselves. They expect the riders to do so.
Spoke to a few peple who are quite into their cycling and they really don't like them!

In other news, Evans cycles are seeking a buyer/investment.

This week, I've gotta get that new chain and new tyres! Booked in for tomorrow.
