The TWF Horse Racing Thread

Yeah exactly that Bear running in better quality races and won a couple of them carrying 11st 12lbs but it's all pretty much over 2m4f, don't think he truly gets 3 miles.
He's one of the worst campaigned horses around. He's never, ever a 3 miler. It completely negates his jumping which is superb.

Need Envoi tomorrow for £510. Surely...
You'd think so.

I need Chacun, Envoi and Al Boum Photo for about £850. Not overly confident on the Gold Cup tbh. Wish I'd kept that out of the bet.

Chacun makes it a good week on my anteposts. Envoi then with it a very good week. If Kilcruit can pop in with those 2 its smashing week

If Chacun and Easysland come in today it rolls onto about 1k for Envoi. I won't be sleeping tonight if that happens!

Think you might have it in the bag Nando, Chacun most likely to not win imo out of the 3.

Janika has run a belter there - just didn't have the ability to quicken up. Jumped beautifully. Blue Sari a horrible JP/WMP plot but thankfully he's OK.

Somewhat sick not to have landed a good pay-out from Happygolucky, Houx Gris or Janika! 50p EW yankee would have landed over £500 at those odds even with Glorious Zoff, who was ultimately disappointing after he turned in absolutely swinging.

Just a reminder of the inherent cruelty of horse racing.
Ah cool, thanks for the reminder. I'll probably stop watching and enjoying, despite all the knowledge I have of what goes on behind the scenes at stables and how courses are constantly making things safer.

The analogy doesn't work because horses can't recover from a broken leg, they would be put to sleep if they were in a field and did it. It's not about expense or lack of caring, just reality. The National is a bit of a red herring these days, Cheltenham kills more horses and Horse Death Watch shows it's a regular thing at a much lower level

All that said I used to be a fan of racing, particularly National Hunt. My dad and grandad were massive lovers and I was brought up alongside the voices of Brough Scott, John Oaksey, Richard Lindley etc every Saturday. I went to Cheltenham every year for 20+years and Uttoxeter which is only 15 mins up the road. I have even won the Cheltenham tipster competition on here.

Then 4/5 years ago I stopped eating mammals and thought racing was inconsistent with that life choice. The fundamental argument is similar - without it they wouldn't be born.

Like mammal eating I wouldn't want it banned and wouldn't preach to anyone, it's just not for me anymore

Your timing is impeccable TT. I was about to join Trips in making sarcastic comments.

"wouldn't preach to anyone" - I used to share that opinion but have changed. If you see something you find morally unjustifiable then I see nothing wrong with speaking out - however much others may disagree. Even if you are in a minority of one.

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.” (misattributed to Gandhi)

You want to speak out, then fine. Not sure what you're hoping to achieve posting it in a tipster thread on a football forum. I doubt you are going to change many peoples minds in there on the sport, with the witty (and incorrect) anology.

I wouldnt push people to watch horse racing, if people want to know more about it I will talk to them. Just find it humourous that people who dont follow or really understand the sport think their preaching about cruelty will change minds

You can't just make sweeping comments though that horse racing is cruel without backing that up with reasoning and actual facts. Of course there's cruelty involved but there's cruelty in absolute every walk of life because humans are involved and we're not all as good as we should and we would hope to be. Biggest argument i could make for horse racing to continue that takes the argument away from actual racing is that the thoroughbred is bred to race, you stop racing and you're killing off an entire breed of horse. I know i love horse racing but i don't think i'm comfortable in killing off an entire breed of any animal.
