The only asset Phillips has over Neves is his mobility and athleticism...I'd pick Ruben every dayThere’s nothing Phillips can do that Neves can’t.

Pep or PhillipsWatching Newsnight and someone just something along the line of “ if you put a clown in a palace, the clown doesn’t become a king, the palace becomes a circus. We need to get rid of the oaf”
I’ve edited it and still got the wrong thread.Pep or Phillips

Probably, for a DM I'd rather have good tackling and long passing anyway, which Neves is superior imo.I’m not even sure he’s that much more mobile or athletic. Let’s not pretend he’s the next kante and Neves is Milijas. The difference is minimal.
When your whole team is camped in their half 99% of the time. Long passing is no use.Probably, for a DM I'd rather have good tackling and long passing anyway, which Neves is superior imo.
How do you know how much he is worth?Spent twice as much as he’s worth to get him, impressive.

Now I wouldn't claim to know anything about Botman, but no better than what we have in a centre half pairing is some low bar when we have not one who has proven they can do it and at least a couple of senior players I'd suggest can't as they are today.
Current Boly can barely move and always had lapses in concentration in his locker. Coady had never been able to move and has struggled physically, aerially and being ran at. Kilman looks like he has all the bits and pieces but what’s his positional discipline like? We don’t really know. Gomes has the physical attributes but again what’s his positional discipline like and I’ve already seen him get his feet tangled or miss clearances multiple times in his limited appearances. Now I wouldn't claim to know anything about Botman, but no better than what we have in a centre half pairing is some low bar when we have not one who has proven they can do it at PL level and at least a couple of senior players I'd suggest can't as they are today.

Having watched his YouTube clips I don’t think this is true. Makes up ground well due to his long limbs and uses the long limbs to good use sliding In. Similar to Dan Burn in that regard.Botman is glacial, he makes Roger Johnson look like Usain Bolt.
Seems highly unlikely a Ligue 1 winner who is only 22 and has been targeted for 2 years by various clubs is “no better”.

Not rapid but good positioning and reading of the game combined with his size mean he will be ok in that regard. If you coupled those attributes with pace then you have Van Dijk and he wouldn’t be going to Newcastle.
Don’t remember him being a key player for Lille in a title winning campaign being targeted for years for big fees? Might be wrong though. Don’t think anyone suggested Botman was elite either, as I said, wouldn’t be going to Newcastle if so.Agreed, as we all know Choupo Moting is an elite centre forward.
Don’t think you could!Having watched him live in at least 15 games, I disagree. I could put a highlight reel together of Matt Doherty looking like a good defender, he isn’t one.
