Maybe in isolation but a hindrance not a help. Terrible body language, no off the ball work unless it suited him and him being there was a detriment to every other attacking player at Utd, all of whom without fail had poor seasons

Hinderance because they were set up terribly. That’s the managers fault.

Don’t have Penandes offering less on the ball and less off it playing where ever he likes. With two bang average DMs. Rashford is rubbish so at least work hard. Sancho got better , Greenwood did well then got suspended.

Ronaldo can do what he likes. The rest need to do some running though because they aren’t good enough to only play going forward.

They had a manager who at least to start with before he lost interest wanted to play a high press and a centre forward who refused to. Why do you think Fernandes was crap last season, why is he for Portugal with the same dynamic? I'll bet now if Ronaldo leaves he'll be their best player again this season amd Utd will be a better team for it

Absolutely, fact signed Ronaldo cut the legs of Ole (for all his faults) when he was trying to build.
Bullshit signing based on nothing more then PR & sentiment, keep fans happy. Don't get me wrong Ronaldo quality finisher, wrong man, wrong place, wrong time

Because he didn’t take as many penalties! 9/10 of pens scored in 20/21. 0/2 in 21/22. Makes up for the 8 less goals he scored…

In all seriousness, you can’t play that way when you’re front 4 contains Ronaldo, Penandes, Rashford and Greenwood. With a mediocre defence and shit CM. Same as you can’t play Coady and Boly together in a 4 on the hallway line.

At least Ronaldo is good.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a poor fit, but he’s there now. If I was manager, given all the other issues with my team I wouldn’t want to be losing Ronaldo.

He doesn’t want to be there and is costing similar wages to Salah while borking Penandes and blocking the development of others. Plus they need the wage space to sort out the huge mess the rest of the squad is. I hope he stays, put it that way.

The financials are a mess but these things don’t seem to matter to Man United. But im not commenting on his cost or desire to be there. More the fact I as manager wouldn’t be happy if my best player was leaving. His cost, worth, whatever is nothing to do me with me as it’s not my job and I didn’t do the deal.

He can play with Penandes. Maybe Penandes could take a leaf out of compatriot Bernardo Silvas book and actually run around a bit. But you could play them in a 442 but you just can’t play them with 2 other forwards who don’t want to run and aren’t that good.

Fernandes does plenty of running whenever I've seen him play, when Ronaldo does fuck all defensive work though it makes them both look bad and the rest of the team even worse.

Fernandes constantly takes himself out the game pressing on his own because he doesn't get any support from Ronaldo. The two can't play together because their approach is too different, not because a team can't carry them both.

Comes down to a tactical decision, if you want to play a higher press then you can't use Ronaldo regardless of his talent. If you think he's so talented that you can't do without him then you can't play a high press and you probably have to ditch Fernandes because he hasn't the discipline.

I agree with that. Fernandes’ “pressing” is just aimless and unitelligent. Sprint in one direction, take yourself out the game and then not get back. So that looks like your doing something but he’d have been better off standing still.

With Ronaldo he might not sprint around like Stephen Hunt but he’s not exactly completely statuesque like Messi.

He's just a finishing machine these days. Does absolutely nothing else.

Would be ideal for Bayern domestically.

Pure finishing ability isn't enough at the top level. You have to offer something from open play.

If Jeff was serious about building the “brand” he’d be on the phone to Jorge, we’d be in the papers worldwide*

* not serious before you all raise your blood pressure

Ronaldo presses even less than Messi does!

Yeah I think ten Hag won’t mind either way tbf. If he stays he’s got a 25-30 goal a season forward, if he leaves it allows him to shape his team a bit better towards the way he wants them to play
