I mean they’re currently starting with Luuk de Jong up front so…

Trippier to Newcastle for 12m plus a few add ons. Good business.

Depends on how much they are paying him

Its not though is it, if you start signing mediocre players on expensive longish term contracts and want to progress you get stuck unable to sign better players due to FFP later on

Is Trippier so good a player that he will keep them up? Apart from a decent free kick every so often I've never seen enough of him to think 'what a great player'.

In isolation no, but with another couple then yes. Unfortunately only being a couple of points adrift, they'll sign what they need to. His signing will give other players the confidence to go there.
Position wise he's an enormous upgrade on Manquillo

I dont really see that , not when youre owned by a state. See Man City and PSG for examples. FFP will be bollocks for the premier league and unlike us , Newcastle wont be in europe the next season after they splashed the cash if they spend in January its this years accounts. This article reckons they have a minimum of 166m to spend -Premier League transfer window: How much can each club spend in January? | GiveMeSport

In reality , Newcastle spending power is now the best outside the Sky six and proably better than a couple of those. They have a 35-40k fanbase week in week out and are backed by zillions who , unlike foosun , are not too bothered abouit ROI initially. I can see them spunking 100m in January, staying up and doing another 100m in the summer. Trippier is not mediocre , he will give two years good service at least. If they sign 3 or 4 others 28-32 at the same price (which is quite feasible given those available) they will have enhanced their squad , bought some depth and should then have enough to stay up.

They have big wiggle room because Ashley spent nothing. However if they spend £166m they would be unable to spend any more for three years.

Worth reading the article though boys. To quote

Newcastle are down in seventh place with £166 million to spend. But this comes with an asterisk. Once owners have negotiated commercial deals, they will be able to exceed that.

"As it stands the FFP position at Newcastle would have been the same without the takeover, however, the club now has an owner that will be prepared to exploit the potential since they have the resources and probably the inclination to do so," said Maguire.

"What's more, Newcastle's position is expected to strengthen further as it starts to strike new and lucrative commercial deals so it will rise to over 200m"

I repeat. They can spunk 100m this window and another ton in the summer and they will probably not fall foul. But lets just see what they do.Lots of Wolves fans seem to have been indoctrinated ino the FFP myth thanks to UEFA not the premier league. Even with that we have 70m to spend. We wont, but we have it.

Plus FFP is only an issue to the poorer clubs, they will be able to wriggle their way out of anything other than fines, look at what City and Barca have done over the years to evade it.

Plus they have owners who are quite willing to fund terrorism, I'm sure they won't baulk at taking on the PL and UEFA. I think I know who'd win that fight.

This is , unfortunately , where I sit too. Its bollocks, its morally wrong , but its the reality for me.

They can’t just make up commercial deals. They have to be fair value. They can’t do a Man City and waste money on Jo and Roque Santa Cruz

A lot of clubs in the PL weren't happy with the deal and so will be watching them and their dealing, like a hawk
