I swear people have had bad experiences with praise on this forum.

Simply put my team leader was happy with the recent effort I have put in. It was good to be praised and made me happy.

So you've had a verbal warning then? Praising your recent effort means your team leader has previously had unspoken concerns about your previous efforts so what you see as praise is actually code for "you need to make sure you don't start coasting again because I'm keeping my eye on you and if I need to keep both eyes on you it isn't going to end well for you."
