Worked a private dinner last night for golfer Paul McGinley and his family to toast his upcoming captaincy of Europe at the Ryder Cup. Nice fella, was really cool hearing him talking about Seve Ballesteros and how he plans to have a Spanish coloured pocket on the Europeans jackets on one of the days in honour of Seve. Also thought it was really cool how he wants tartan trimming on the edge of the jackets in honour of the Scottish hosts, even when his sisters tried to talk him out of it and suggested he put the yellow and green of Donegal on them. He mentioned how he spent 3 days with Oscar Pistorious and Micheal Phelps last year and if he thought anyone was likely to shoot their girlfriend, it was Phelps. Alex Ferguson sent a letter offering his advice and support to McGinley. He has garnered the respect of the sporting world as he was in our hotel to conduct interviews with Sky ahead of the Ryder Cup. A media bloke came in with a case and took out the Ryder Cup itself. It was really odd serving tea and coffee and seeing a bunch of kids mauling the thing. Then I got to take a few pictures of McGinley and family with the Ryder Cup and nabbed myself an official RC pendant which was left on the table by the media bloke.
Definitely a good evening at work!
