The Road to World Cup 2026 and UEFA Nations League

Ref has lost it here. Booked Ugarte twice but he's still there
100% didn't book him the 2nd time. Yes he got a card out and yes it was yellow and yes he showed it to the player but nothing there indicates that it was a booking.

Officiating been a shocking example, they’ve simply guessed all the way through

So VAR don't give a red when it's clear, make up their own rules on a second yellow and give a ridiculous penalty. Still it definitely improves the game

Whoever the onfield ref was should be nowhere near the World Cup inconsistency throughout and completely lost the plot with second yellow card. VAR officiating was even worst, I’m sure they officiate friendly games with a bit of charity in mind.

As for England lots on show tonight who’ve probably taken a big step to having the summer off.

How many times does Jarrod Bowen have to prove that he’s not good enough?
Whether he just doesn't suit international football or whatever I don't know, but he never does anything

1 goal in 21 games and he's 30 before the end of the year

Statistically having a much better season than Saka (who will walk into the starting 11), whilst playing for a much worse side.

I thought the officiating was appalling tonight, but as soon as the hostage Dixon muttered “it’s not a penalty” it was always going to be given!

Garner looked pretty good. Can’t see many of the others involved tonight getting on the plane.

Who would you play if manager - Saka or Bowen?
He’s good at club level but that has not translated into his international performances. I think I recall him playing well once, in a game where we got a draw late on. Other than that - below what I’d expect from an England player.

Yeah but that's largely irrelevant isn't it.

Dion Dublin, Chris Sutton, Andy Cole and Darren Huckerby all comfortably outscored Alan Shearer in 1997/98 but which one are you having start up top in France 98.

Bowen won't get the same role for England that he gets for West Ham and teams at the World Cup won't play against England like Premier League teams play against West Ham, so he's not the same player.

Bad performance on the whole. I think Uruguay barely played, when they did briefly they actually looked decent but were more about game managing and shutting down play which they did successfully.

Lot of none performances, Spence on the wrong side is criminal - he's terrible even in his natural position. Him, Bowen, Foden, Solanke, White, they're nowhere near deserving a place. Maguire did OK and Wharton offered something from the bench (but Uruguay targeted him constantly), otherwise not many bright sparks.

Ref was horrendous, missed lots of fouls by Uruguay and that's before the strange double yellow thing.

I'm sure there will be some positives from Tuchel's perspective about the set pieces and we should have scored from a second but it's not inspirational and I hate it's the way football is currently going.
