The Race to be Relegated with Wolves, 24/25 Thread

That point actually works the other way doesn't it?

Despite all the things that were against us, we won a game very few expected us to.

Neves, Moutinho, Adama, Boly, Saiss, Coady, Patricio, Jonny, Jota in the squad made it a possibility.

Obvs.

I'm not going to put money on it, and I don't expect us to get anything from the Villa game.

But I don't agree with this certainty you have that we will lose to Villa, things happen in football.

Just like yesterday, if Cunha scores a simple chance we likely get a result from a game no one would ever have expected to.

Football isn't logical.

Villa’s squad was good enough to qualify for the CL. Ours came 7th. They’re a good side but nevertheless they struggle after CL games.

At what point have I said it will be a certain defeat?

3 of those games were away v Chelsea, Forest, Liverpool, another was a home draw v Bournemouth. They’ve won 1 game post CL v ourselves. The results above could’ve easily occurred regardless of a CL campaign.
Let’s go all the way back to the original the point I was making which seems to have been lost.
In 1 month it could be we’re 4-6 points away from safety based on who we’re and Ipswich are playing. At no point have I made a definite statement that it’s guaranteed. Just used some pretty solid evidence to suggest it could well happen.

What am I responding to so it has context?
I’ll do it for you goes back to my original points that the IF I emphasise this word. We ended up 4-6 points adrift we would struggle to recover mentally. You responded with “I’m sure Leicester fans were thinking the same before today”
It’s at this point I made the above comment to give a contrast in situation.
So that isn’t me saying it’s a certainty we’ll lose it’s myself putting into context a possible situation and how it could affect the side mentally.

And you'd have thought that 7 successive defeats for Leicester would have effected them so badly there was no chance they'd have won today despite Spurs issues!

The same applies to us, in my opinion.

What do you use to make future predictions?
Again I’m banging my head against a wall, there’s no certainty and have never said it’s a definite thing we’ll lose the next 3.
I’ve simply stated a very possible scenario based on some pretty hard evidence:
League position
Playing staff
Recent form
That’s all you can use really to be objective

If Bruno Lage can beat them at Villa Park then we can realistically beat them on Saturday.

I'd feel more confident if some of the other elements I mentioned earlier (signings and use of youth) were in play for the game though.

But even if we can get Toti back starting as LCB and get Agba in a more natural position for him that would be a start

Gap was smaller then and we still had the remainder parts of what was a good side.
To add Dean Smith was manager of Villa that day to. We finished above them in the league also.
It’s not the worst time to face them nevertheless I think we’re clinging to small bits of hope.
