The Race to be Relegated with Wolves, 24/25 Thread

Andre, the Brazil midfielder who cannot get a game and wasn't needed? What a screwed up world we have with Shi, Hobbs and GON - West.
Compare this situation and our recent performances with this showing against Besiktas 5 years ago with Ruddy, Bennett, Burr, Vinagre, Cutrone, Perry and Otasowie all contributing to a 4-0 stuffing.

Light years away sadly.

Us and Palace probably have the better set of fixtures and Everton will be desperate to beat us on Wednesday looking at their upcoming games.
I think we’ll be on about 14-15 points going into new year

Before our mini run of results I was thinking about 15 points by the end of the year. In theory that might keep us in the hunt for survival. The longer we go on with GON, the more that even slight chance diminishes.

I don't know why I pay attention to what our relegation peers are up to sometimes though; our fate is really all in GON's chaotic hands
This paragraph: 2nd part of the sentence answers the first part

No matter which way you cut the pie our outlook is a grim one whilst Fosun are in charge.
If by some miracle we survive then this situation of struggling will continue with eventual relegation.
If we go down and came back up again it’ll be a case of trying to finish 17th and that’s it.
The most likely scenario is we give it a half arsed effort after relegation but fall short then just drift into ghost club status.
Reality is it’s very hard to get motivated about wolves at the moment. All energy has gone out the club. It’s a sad situation and I’m now at a point where I’d find something else to do rather than attend games even if it was a free ticket.
Last para nails exactly how I’m feeling about Wolves right now though, for me, it’s about watching/following games rather than attending.

New Director of Football and New Owners. Given what we expect with how they'll act post-relegation, thinking about going back up will be least of our problems.

I don’t miss going which is sad indictment, I’m still passionate about the club but just find it hard to get excited about us now as I can see where this is heading.
As @Tony Towner says new ownership would inject a bit of energy.
Not asking for billionaires just people who know how to run the club effectively.
The club size will mean if we’re run properly will more often than not be challenging for promotion or be in the PL on a regular basis.

Still only 4th favourites to go down, bizarre
It certainly is. Sometimes fans who watch their team know more than the bookies’ algorithms. Won money two years running when MM/TC and then Saunders got us relegated. I expect to win again this season at far more favourable odds than are currently on offer.

Just checked out Albion's recent form. Unbeaten in the last ten......... with 9 draws!! Who suggested Hoddle again?

I asked the other week when did they appoint Hoddle

I don't think the odds are that far off.

Leicester are a bad team. They fluked points under Cooper and how they won against West Ham I'll never know. You have to presume the luck won't last, even though it could.

Even Everton. It's not out the question that we make up five points on them (providing we sack O'Neil) over the next five fixtures, so we could be around the same at the halfway mark. I do think they will ultimately stay up though.

Leicesters new manager is a reality rather than some notion though

We’re in touching distance on paper but in reality our problems run very deep, unless the goals against column is reduced rapidly then we’re a certainty for the drop.

Nothing has changed, we are still on for this.

Hi

I was told by a friendly stranger on a flight a few days ago to share some insight with Wolves fans as I've had the pleasure (well...) to, from a safe distance, being involved in quite a lot of Fosun's dealings in England and elsewhere in Europe.

In short, they have promised their Chinese lenders to offload non-profitable assets outside of China. In cases where this is not easily done but where a future sale is possible, Wolves and other Fosun assets are expected to function at a minimum cost level (optimally at a profit). If it possible to sell "loose assets" without losing brand value, their lenders expect them to that, and that is what is happening with your squad.

I know that for each of their (during normal operations) non-profitable assets there is a certain threshold where some money can be reinvested in the respective companies - as long as the overall target is reached. Don't be too surprised if there, at the end of the window, some money is spent on new players.

Fosun would love to sell Wolverhampton and from my understanding has reached out to potential Middle East investors to get someone to bite - but to no avail. Qatari oligarchs would love to buy a football club but they don't want one in Wolverhampton.

However, Fosun are expecting that at some point in the future, their valuation will be met. Until then, they have two options:
1. Invest just enough to stay up and sell off valuable assets (players) each summer
2. Get relegated to the Championship, operate the club on Championship costs while soaking up parachute payments

This could probably go on for 2-3 years, but I know that the Fosun leadership have an awareness that this won't be sustainable and that without investing substantial money, the club will eventually start to fail on the pitch (not a big issue until 12 months post relegation) while it will also bleeding money (a big issue and not tolerated by lenders and the Chinese government).

So yeah... they should sell. They want to sell, and without really knowing how you feel about them, I guarantee you that you want them to sell... But as it stands, no one is interested. China has said no to wasting more money on foreign football teams, the Saudis have decided to do their own thing, the Americans are no longer allowed to buy clubs in the fashion they bought United & Burnley. Basically what Fosun are waiting for is an unknown player which may or may not exist.

It’s looked the most likely direction of travel ever since it was originally posted.
It's not by design though. They spent a lot of money in the Summer, just by and large on the wrong players. It might end up being the way things go, but it's incompetence led.
