William Aldcroft 103.
Another Second World War veteran, joined up aged 18, transferred to the parachute regiment, shipped off to Tunisia in 1943, the ship he was on got torpedoed, they got rescued, and then while being transferred by train that got shelled and he was injured, after recovering he was in the fighting through Sicily and Italy.
He was in Arnhem to capture the bridges, got injured,evacuated and while in hospital the Germans captured it and he spent the rest of the war as a POW.
He was apparently the last surviving member of the parachute regiment that fought at Arnhem, and he said he only really found out about what his regiment was supposed to do there by reading books about it after the war
