The R.I.P. Thread

She was a 91 year old woman, and plenty of prominent 1960's figures would have said, thought and done things we now find distasteful.

What's TP's excuse for reductive misogyny in 2025?

Love how old people get a pass for being racist shit heads but middle aged internet dwellers get called out for suggesting others on here viewed her as a sexual object.

It's an art versus artist argument. Personally i can separate the 2, Another Rock and Roll Christmas is my favourite festive song. I can like the bop without going all Jim Davidson and making excuses for the scumbag who sang it. LA Confidential is still a great film, so is Chinatown despite both involving terrible individuals

Behavioural standards are for other people, I guess? That about right?

Would he have diminished Alain Delon as just someone people wanked over?

No one's made excuses for her views and politics though

Wish you could do the same with Lost Prophets. Evil motherfucker ruined a brilliant album.

This isn’t about holding a 1960s figure to 2025 standards.

Describing your unborn child as a “cancerous tumour” and saying you’d rather give birth to a dog would have been seen as abhorrent when she said it, not just now.

(Thats before all the racist shit)

TP can speak for himself, but i interpreted his comment as criticising the way she’s still treated fondly because men projected desire onto her and let that override everything else.

That’s a critique of male behaviour and cultural nostalgia, not of women.

Always a way out and never any accountability 😅

She's 'treated fondly' because she was a cinema icon who starred in a masterpiece like 'Le Mepris', which has brought more joy and interest to the world than any moral posturing by nobodies on an internet forum ever will 👍

She was convicted for racism several times I think. Memoralising the death of a racist is pretty special.

“She made great films” isn’t a rebuttal, it’s an excuse.

Her work is used to deflect from views that were abhorrent even when she expressed them, including those remarks about her unborn child that you’ve sidestepped entirely.
