The R.I.P. Thread

Seeing him on the Ziggy tour is something I'll never forget.

His music was the soundtrack of my passage to maturity.

Goodbye, Thin White Duke.

My greatest hero. I was lucky enough to see him several times. Genius is an understatement for David Bowie. RIP, great man.

One that has slipped through is Ed "Stewpot" Stewart who passed away on Saturday aged 74.
Radio 1 & 2 dj, presenter of Crackerjack from 1973 to 1979 (so a big part of my Saturday mornings when growing up) and on Top of the Pops. RIP

Stewpot had a stroke I believe darlo? Pretty much like a lot of his 60/70s comtemporaries?

Now now Phil...One of the few with no whispers of evil doings...

Other than meeting his wife when she was 13 and he was 31, of course.

Humiliated kids by making them hold cabbages on national tv, throwing them off if they dropped one...wrong un

Another of our great team of the fiftieshas passed away.

R.I.P. Roy Swinbourne.

KJ would have really liked Roy, because if anyone played with power, it was him. Very strong in all aspects of the game.

I saw David Bowie in 1973 at the Coventry theatre. It was during his Alladin Sane tour. He was absolutely superb. I was very sad to hear today that he had passed away.

R.I.P. Ziggy.

At least he got the last album out, which I am sure was his main hope over the last months. You have new material to enjoy while you remember him.

Been listening to the radio allday and its done a fine job of paying respect to the music of Bowie.
Haven't heard much talk about his style though,I have a framed Low lp on the wall and the influence that cover had on football casuals cant be underestimated...great lp too.
Personally love "cant help thinking about me" from 1966.
The lyrics "Remember when we used to go to church on sundays
I lay awake at night, terrified of school on mondays" resonated with my youth.

One song off his previous album was an amazing tune but I can't remember what it was called. Never a Bowie follower because I never liked 'Bowie types' when I was a teenager, but there's thirty or fourty of his songs I'd never never turn off if they came on the radio. An English icon, a mod - people like him turn this depressing corrupt shithole into something of interest for foreigners ...

An incredibly talented and free soul ..

Some amazing Bowie related stories filling up my Facebook in the past 24hrs. I know a couple of promoters/DJ's here in Dublin, turns out David Bowie was over here in the late 90's checking out the DnB scene. My mate was DJ'ing in Andrews Lane Theatre and tripped over someone who was sitting at the side of the stage, turns out it was Bowie, who asked one of the guys to put on a secret gig for him. My mate Ray DJ'd as the opening act and then Bowie showed up and played 30+songs to 300 invitees. Amazing scenes. Turns out he played a secret show in the Baggot Inn in 99, a small pub near Lansdowne Rd, and Ray also opened for him that night too.
