The R.I.P. Thread

From Stone Hockey Club;

We’ve been informed that club legend Imran Sherwani sadly passed away in the early hours of this morning.

While playing for Stone between 1984 and 1987, he was already performing at the highest level, going on to win silver medals with England at both the 1986 Hockey World Cup in London and the 1987 European Championship in Moscow.

He is, of course, best known for winning Olympic gold with Great Britain at Seoul 1988, famously scoring two goals in the final against West Germany and the famous commentary “Where were the Germans, and quite frankly, who cares”.

Beyond his international success, Imran also taught at Denstone College and continued giving back to the sport before being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s a few years ago.

Our thoughts go out to Louise, Aaron, Zac, Josh and the family.

Rest in peace Imran ❤️

Studied Arcadia for my A-Level English and loved it, was gutted I never got to see it live (we were supposed too but got cancelled fairly last minute).
