The Official World Cup 2018 Megathread

Seen Ronaldo play for Real, but he didn't have a great game and missed a penalty. Modric gave a midfield masterclass though, so probably him

Against Wolves, I thought Lampard was sublime when Chelsea beat us 5-0 in 2003.

Yeah, he was. Modric was also brilliant down here for Spurs in the 3-3 in 2011.

Vieira was frighteningly good on a couple of occasions that we played Arsenal, I was looking forward to seeing Bergkamp but he got outshone on the day(s).

Slightly changing the topic, but who would be the greatest player that we have all seen play in person?

On my team Pablo Aimar.

Against it Cristiano.

One man performance.. I remember Forlan destroying us playing for Villarreal.

Best performance? Nigel Martyn
Best outfield? I'd agree with Lampard in the 5-0

Best player seen live would have to be Ronaldo although as others have said he wasn't great at the time.

This could be a battering, Australia are shite. They'd struggle to get promoted from League One.

I reckon they might shop a few goals from their right hand side....

What’s wrong with Mark Chapman this morning or is he always this sarcastically grumpy?

First upset of the tournament? Could be today with the Aussies or Iceland. If Iceland are well supported the venue is so close to the pitch. Nice and intimidating for argentina. First shock today

Do they normally not segregate the fans at a world cup? Either way, I'm all for it - just hope there isn't a game where violence comes out.

France are looking very tidy. Little wasteful but I fancy them to go very far this year (plus I have them in the office sweepstake)

Australia so far look greater than the sum of their parts. France need a goal

France being wasteful is giving Australia a chance to get into this.

France looked good for the first 10 minutes and have been pretty average since. Not enough pace and movement in their attacks to trouble a well organised Aussie defence.

I keep telling you, Deschamps is wrecking this lot.

Australia doing well bringing France down to their level.

Seriously were France one of the favourites ?

French got the old 11 stranger's/individuals cliche working superbly.

I don't think you can pin it solely on him, as far as Kante seems to be a complete waste of space for a game like this he isn't completely responsible for individual performances when they get on the pitch, none of them look in the least bit interested. That last pass from Pogba was absolute garbage too, so easy to just knock it wide to the fullback but gets it's wrong by a mile and gives it straight back to Australia, awful performance from everyone so far.
