The Official World Cup 2018 Megathread

what a game!

courtois absolute monster. neymar's previous-game antics worked to his detriment this game, no sympathy there. brazil should have done better on quite a few finishes. game could've easily gone the other way a different day.

IMO, even though it was mostly against Tunisia and Panama, England have been the most impressive side that's still alive. Seriously.

great game of football that

Erm.... Whut

No one has looked that great all tournament, but England have been exceptional attacking when they've wanted to be and I was extremely impressed that they managed to keep Colombia from scoring in ET.

At last that cheating prick neymar is going home, think Belgium will win it

England are probably slight favourites in the bottom half of the draw, but would be outsiders at kick off against either France or Belgium.

On paper, maybe, but IMO to the eye there's very little to choose between the three.

Exceptional attacking? Apart from Panama, have they scored from open play?

England are what they are. A side that the opposition should be terrified about giving a set piece away against. They aren't incisive in open play though

This.

Very well rehearsed at set pieces but for me, England seem a bit short on ideas when getting forward in open play.

Fair play to be honest. He made a throwaway remark and people read more into it than he meant. He obviously respects Pickford and wanted to show that.

Do you think England's attacking has been exceptional?

It’s been very good we could have scored 5 from open play against Tunisia. 9 goals from 4 games proves that really don’t see how scoring from set pieces is somehow a negative. Corners and attacking free kicks are part of attacking and at that we have been exceptional. It’s not as pleasing on the eye as free flowing football.

I think he did very well with his comments tonight and that should be applauded rather than derided.

6 of those 9 came against Panama though.

What would the GD be if you had faced a better team?

I'm just being real here, a little clarity is needed. Alan's comment about England being exceptional is deluded tbh.

Well, yeah, he did. He took a touch to prevent Kompany winning the ball and that touch pushed the ball straight out of play.

I think he played to win a penalty and that's exactly what it should've been. The ball's in play and Kompany takes him down. It's pretty clear cut.

None against Belgium with a reserve side so we’ll scrub that so basically you’re judging England by the Colombia game and saying the Panama doesn’t count because they were rubbish.
Weren’t the best attacking side in the tournament admittedly.
