The Official World Cup 2018 Megathread

Portugal are terrible, aren't they?

Can see why Ronaldo gets pissed off and attempts to do it all by himself. Several times he's made runs off the ball and in to the box and most of their players like to pass the ball backwards or sideways instead.

Yeah, nothing forward..no runs off the ball etc

I'd heard Guedes had been very good for Valencia this season but he looks absolutely hopeless here.

Taking a FK is no different in any league in the world. You have the quality to make it unsaveable or you don't.

Hardly, Chris Martin or Gary Gardner are hardly great freekick takers but could count on Ikemes poor positioning and flat footedness to score. Both spoke more of defensive error than taker quality.

What a player Cavani is by the way. I know many don't rate him because his finishing isn't always the best but he gets so many chances because of his movement, he works so hard for his team and sacrifices himself many times and he shows everyone what attitude players should have towards the game.

Has to be said that as poor as Portugal are, Uruguay are a very good football team. One of the only sides I've seen so far that I genuinely think England would struggle to beat.

They are a really good side

They're a proper TEAM. Think that's the biggest advantage they have.

Pepe of all people haha

Not just a team like Sweden, they have quality too
Point being that too many international sides these days play like a collection of individuals.

Poor marking, good header. Portugal much better this half so far.

Kevin Doyle was gushing about him on RTE at HT, talking about exactly this. His work rate is the difference for Uruguay

Delighted for Pepe to score :icon_rolleyes:

Really sloppy from Godin for once.

yeah everybody make mistakes

Quite like Diego Laxalt. Wing back, too. Competition for Bazza?

Even João Mario looking decent now.
