The NFL Thread

Still alive. The Broncos likely to be up against the Chiefs backups next week so should still sneak in.

It's an interesting one, as they have the number 1 seed so with another week off it's a fine line between resting and leaving them cold with 3½ weeks off

Tua inactive for the Dolphins today. They must feel like their outside shot at the play-offs is really no shot.

And the Jets have a player called Qwan'tez Stiggers. Has serious Hingle McCringleberry vibes about that name.

Getting a lot of 'soft' shit on social media. I have them in my 6 fold, but the only late game, 2 up, 3 at 6pm, I'll cash out if they all win Eagles, Colts, Bucs, their record without him is awful even if it is only the Browns

Saquon taken out after the 2000. Shame he won't play next week (unless Detroit and Minnesota both lose) as he'd have got the record

Very good performance from the Vikings again seem to have got stronger as he season has gone on. Division decider will be against the Lions (barring anything ridiculous happening in the 4th quarter here.)

One of the teams is going to be playing on the road in the wild card game on 14 wins.

I've not really believed it before, but they are genuine, even moreso if they win next week and get the 1

Game back on.

Glad I made a cup of tea fifteen minutes back instead of going to bed. Those missed field goals could end up being costly.

Delighted to make the playoffs but sheesh - it's going to be a tough away trip in the wild card

They'll have a decent chance in LA as it'll be like a home game. The NFC looks a serious competition, assuming TB win next week then there's not a weak team in there, whereas in the AFC the 7th seed will be poor, Houston and Pittsburgh are in bad form and the Chargers lose against anyone decent, so we'll be going through the motions until the Buffalo v Baltimore game

Don't necessarily agree the 7th seed will be poor, I wouldn't bet on Denver beating the Chiefs 2nd string, which would open the door for the Dolphins who are in decent form or the Bengals who are playing at a very high level on offense.

I feel like Henry has taken the Ravens to another level and they are the team to watch in the AFC. They haven't lost a game when he has rushed for 90+ yards, but are 2-5 when he is held to under 90 yards. It's why I don't think Lamar is the Ravens MVP, Henry is.

I also think the Rams are a sneaky good team in the NFC. They lost a few games early on when Kupp and Nacua were both hurt, but have been playing very well in recent weeks and could give any team in the NFC a run for their money.

Joe Burrow is my favourite none Eagle, but he or anybody else isn't going to be able to overcome that Oline and Defense.

Think I'm now of the view that play off seedings should be completely record based rather than 1-4 being division winners. Those 4 teams still get in, but using this year as an example the loser of the Vikings, Lions game would be number 2, not number 5. TB/Atlanta 7 not 4

The Texans are a bang average team, the very definition of 'meh', but we will host a playoff game by virtue of beating the Colts home and away. So I want to agree with you, but.

The USA and fairness are only very vaguely familiar to each other. Winning is all that matters and under the current set up each team competes in a division of 4 teams and has the goal of winning that mini-league. The majority of games are either against other teams in your division or against the same teams as your division rivals. Teams from other divisions may have played against completely different opponents so why should a team that finishes 2nd in one division get to play at home against a team that wins its league?

A fairer way would be for the teams to play 15 games - one each against the other teams in their Conference, then 1st against 8th etc in the Playoffs. And of course the whole system of playoffs is not 'fair'. Regardless of any historical reasons, the playoffs are now just a money-making venture, not just in the NFL but in all sports. Best regular season record = best team.

If I could change anything about the NFL and its conference/division system it would be to start over and have a complete redesign. Since a team cannot physically play more than 17 or so regular games, why not create 8 new teams and have 4 leagues of 10. Play each other home and away, 18 games with the top 2 from each league getting into the playoffs.

At the absolute minimum, and since the current divisions are based on geography, move the cowgirls into a more logical division. Why the hell should their rivals all be based in the north east? Money, of course.

Yeah geographically the Panthers and the Cowboys should move, but as you say the NFL like having a Tiffany division, even if that often doesn't translate onto the field - Philly being the least bankable of the 4 in terms of value of franchise.
