The Music Thread Strikes Back

She was a good singer and recorded some excellent songs,
When my F-i-L passed away I had the task of going through his vinyl collection to make sure they were ok for sale....I came very close to ripping my ears off when it came to Cilla's songs.
One song i thought the record player was broken, but it wasnt

Did you get passed over for 'Blind Date?'

Shit - didn’t clock DW had already nominated All Saints - Black Coffee! It’s an absolute pop classic!

Let me replace that one.

Struggled a bit without putting 10 Paramore songs. Must be a big fat misogynist. Would probably change if I looked other than spellings - even more 80s bangers maybe.

Paramore's early stuff is quality.

We're off to see Alison Moyet in November. Should have seen her 3-4 years ago with Tears For Fears but she had to pull out, was still the Covid days. They roped in Brand New Heavies as support and so we just turned up for the main act :D

My attempt at a 'one hit wonder' 10

Downtown - Petula Clark
Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey
Wild Horses - Patti Smith
All Tomorrow's Parties - Velvet Underground & Nico
On my Radio - The Selecter.

Always loved the song Downtown, and have a particular soft spot as my mum was lead singer in a band and was often told she looked and sang like Pet Clark. I had no idea but apparently she was born in Ewell not from here and still keeps a house in Epsom not 500 yards away. She’s in her 90’s now and despite living in Switzerland can still be found very occasionally in The Cricketers at the bottom of the road. That’s going some, fair play Petula.

Midnight at the Oasis was a banger.

It's more that Cilla was an absolute piece of work.

Mind you I pick Morrissey quite often in these so hey.

No harm done mate.
TBF, I was only 9 years old at the time and her voice was remarkable and I wasn't party to nuance.

Perhaps we should have the best top 10 songs recorded by people with undesirable attributes?

But the most haunting of all was sat under a warm moonlight in LA as a 24 year old trying to work out whether to stay another year or come back to the U.K. while listening to Song To The Siren by This Mortal Coil. Often wondered what would’ve happened if I’d stayed, listening to that takes you back to the turmoil in an instant the way only music can.
