The Music Thread Strikes Back

also had an email that einaudi has announced "undiscovered 2", although a bit disappointed this new release has less unreleased/hard to get stuff on it I think, looking at the tracklisting.

£55 for Ocean Colour Scene at the New Civic. Pre new Civic it would have been £30. Hell I only paid £45 for The Charlatans and Johnny Marr in Halifax at the Piece Halls.
my first gig ticket (aston villa leisure centre, 1991) was £8.50. Civic gigs then were £6 or £6.50 in the main.
Prices have gradually spiralled upwards (see also the ST thread) and it seems bands have little say in the final prices, so it's hard to see who is skimming off the most tbh.

James May tour is £55, but they are bringing a 22 piece orchestra and choir, so fair do's I guess. But if me and mrs jelly decide to go to a gig now, we're looking at at least £100 for a pair of tickets, and that's before travel, parking, refreshments etc, meaning any merch is waaaay down the list!

Feel for many artists, especially those in smaller venues, as touring and merch was pretty much the main way for them to make their living viable. That's now becoming much tougher, especially with streaming paying them so little.

If you're an established band/artist, you can probably make consistent good money, and have the existing exposure. If you're small though, fuck me it has to be tough. Bands/artists used to make their name through their live performances. SM clips don't have the same impact, and music, especially live music *should* be a communal experience.

Take EMF for instance, all have day jobs and can only make new music and tour by selling merchandise. Same goes for most of the bands and artists I listen to. I took them for granted for a long time but sadly in a few years time (Most are 50 plus now) they will not sadly make new music or tour again. So my appreciation is heightened.

I'm trying to support artists and bands player smaller or independent venues more-so these days. I very rarely bother with your "O2s" or arena gigs anymore.

If you have a spare couple of quid this is worth putting towards this week.

Getting ridiculous. Soup Dragons, Wonder Stuff, James and Clone Roses all announce ticket sales this Friday. IM SKINT MANNNNNNNNNN.

I feel all sorts of complicated ways about Michael Jackson, but this is still 100% a bop:

Vid is too fuckin' late 70s 😂

got my James tickets. Chemical Brothers also went on sale this morning (got me one for that show too). Noel Gallagher also released tour tickets this morning. Wonder if live music shizzle is getting into gear again post covid?

James tour with orchestra announced late autumn last year is £55 a ticket.
Guessing the costings have increased massively, as the show at the civic without the orch, so far more standard is £70 a ticket.

Metallica's newest single is the best of the lot IMO.

Just Googled out of curiosity, he's 75 !!
I Googled him the other day and was shocked to read that both his parents were born in Victorian times and his older siblings in the 1920s!

Underworld released And the colour red... this morning, and it bangs.
