The Music Thread Strikes Back

Popped this on yesterday whilst reading, having forgotten how good it is. The Orb (remixed by orbital) at the start is huge!

Spose that's Ryan Adams off any 6 music play lists now then...but still Micheal Jackson gets played on the BBC.

Very disappointed about Ryan. I knew he was a bit of a dick but not quite how much.

They still bang on about John Peel though.

With regards to John Peel...they could easily never play The who, Stones, Zeppelin, Sabbath etc etc etc....if what you read is true
and how old was Priscilla back then with Elvis?

On more positive news, Underworld are being hugely experimental again. They announced "an explosion of underworld" that started late last year. They release a track each week on thursday. After 5/6 weeks oif releases they combine the released tracks onto an EP. The first one started in November, and over christmas they released free downloads of a couple of mixes, rare tracks, unreleased stuff etc. It's been awesome. Rumour is they'll be releasing stuff all year, with the potential for an album too!

latest release from this week is here:

The releases are well varied. Generally the stuff sounds fucking great!

Yeah been enjoying the Drift series. I love how experimental they get when they are in between albums.

Did you like the River Run series they did in 2006?

I think this is better than riverrun to be honest. I love I'm a big sister from that set of releases, but don't listen to the other 2 EPs that much. They also released a live in tokyo 3cd live album then that was full of experimental stuff.

I liked drift episode 1. Dexters Chalk banged! Episode 2 has really stepped it up though. Threat of Rain from last week is amazing.

Looking forward to them constantly drip feeding us new stuff.

Forgot to mention one thing they released inbetween was a live rehearsal from 1998!

new Twilight Sad album actually charted. No.5 at one point apparently.

Weezer's cover album. It's bizarre, but I like it :icon_lol:

It's also reminded me how fucking ridiculous the lyrics to Africa actually are (I don't spend much time listening to Toto as a matter of course)

Just got round to listening to this and I was pretty disappointed TBH. I know it's a covers album, but they're very beige covers - you'd think they would have introduced a bit of their own style into the songs, but they've just tried to replicate them as closely as possible. Shame.

Tony Allen live on 6 music this morning. Total legend.

for the weezer dweebs, they've just announced a tour if you're interested.

Dunno if you've heard this weeks release? Soniamode. Sounds pretty good. Yesterday their youtube unlocked the part 6 by accident, and it was accessible for a few hours. It's a nuts version of appleshine (which was the first release of drift ep2) done with the necks, and it is over 47 minutes long, and it is awesome!

It's been muted now, but can't wait til next thursday. If they offer the download of that, then I'll really take my hat off to them.

einaudi looks like he's announcing a new album or something on 1 march.

It's back, and I still love it. No email with download link yet, but still buzzing off this.

Also been enjoying Nightmares on Wax a lot this morning. Put one of their cds on last night whilst reading, and it carried on this morning.
