The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2023/24

Chris Hughton gets the bullet from Ghana.

Seems apparently blown his chances of the Ireland job on the back of it.
After what happened on his way out from Match 1, this threw me.

(He was confronted by an aggressive Ghana supporter)

Is the Ireland job still a bit of a poisoned chalice with the organisational mess at the FAI or is that slowly improving?
It's not as bad as it was , but there is little money available for a new Manager . You're therefore confined to a much smaller pick , and you're also looking at someone who is either lacking experience or someone much older who is willing to take a pay cut .

I wouldn't rule out Hughton in terms of who might land the job . At present what we need is someone who will steady the ship and it might not be a long term appointment - one campaign only , 2 max .

We're not looking for attractive football , we just need to start winning a few matches and get the team organised . We're really weak in midfield for instance , not even Pep can solve that , the players are not there right now .

I see Roy Keane has done his biennial throwing of his hat into the ring, with the usual caveats that it would have to be 100% on his terms and intimating that he wouldn't mind a bit of an easy gig where you don't have to go in every day or answer to anyone regularly. It's over 13 years since he managed anyone.

The words ' steady the ship ' , ' organised ' are what comes into my mind when looking for attributes that a new Manager needs to bring to the party . Not terms you would associate with the boy Roy .

Thanks , but no thanks Roy .

Good luck in getting a budget to be competing in the top half of the table at Palace. Their whole plan, as seems to be ours now, is just to survive each season.
In ten PL seasons they scraped a top half finish (10th) nine years ago. Other than that they’ve been 11th to 15th. Don’t see higher finishes irrespective of who their manager is.

Maccabi Tel Aviv, I read he'd legged it after October 7th. Assumed he hadn't gone back!

I never ever thought that Robbie Keane had the ability to be a Manager at any level , in any country . I still don't think that it will amount to a whole pile , but I'd love to be proven wrong .

To be fair to Keane , he could easily have jumped ship after the Hamas attack and subsequent conflict since Oct 7th in Gaza , but he didn't , he kept out of the politics and stuck to the football , despite the handicaps .
Keane has no family ties to Israel , so it would have been understandable if he had left after early October .

It is true , as Paddy has said , that Tel Aviv are one of the two top clubs in Israel and win a lot of the silverware , but still , you need to be some way competent to stay in the job and plenty before him have not lasted long .

Keane has to start somewhere and I suppose once he was willing to travel a far distance , then it's as good a place as any .

Yeah but he grew up dreaming of being a manager in Israel.

Joking aside, fair play to him.

Steve Cotterell new manager of FGR

The FAI are reported to be trying to tie down Lee Carsley for the ROI Senior International job .

The only proper option that has shown an interest .

Yes heard a couple of weeks ago from someone in FAI (pretty low down) that they had talked to Carsley and it was his if he wanted it.
Lennon & Hughton were alternatives if he didn't want it.
Angry Roy was never under consideration

That leaves us with..........well no one really from what I can see . The FAI were pretty certain that Carsley would take it .

Neil Lennon - no thanks .

There is no mad rush , let's take our time .
