The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

If league position is the benchmark then this is the worst Arsenal team in 25 years and Spurs in 6. It was explained to you at the time that "shit" is relative to the club. Again you claim disappointment, but appear smug

Oh please fuck off! Smug is the last thing I am feeling . Cheated is closer.

Said it before Thursday is really tough Olympiacos are a proper European outfit. To get Europe next season we’re going to have to beat Olympiacos, Roma/Sevilla, Man Utd and Inter. This is entering the elite level if we get past Thursday

I am utterly gutted that failure to beat Brighton or Burnley has cost us possibly European football. Is that a crime? If so. Consider me convicted

Need to target the League Cup next year. Top 6 going to have rammed schedules. Go out and try and win it. Same goes for the FA cup as well.

Now some fucker is going to call me smug for this but I have long said that the league cup is our best shot at European qualifying so I totally agree with this post

Reality is we don’t have the squad depth

Ah so you're one of the paranoid crew. Explain cheated.

VAR?

Mike Dean 90 min pen

Leicester twice

Man City var pen even though we won
Liverpool var goal
No review v Everton goal

Do you really want me to continue ffs?

Of course we do now! We ain’t got the 15+ games to play next season.

I'm not going to go through it again as there's another thread on it. The only VAR decision which went against us this season that shouldn't within the boundaries that PGMOL and the amended laws was the Mahrez penalty, game we won. Next...

The priority is the premier league. We could and in my opinion should have gone stronger v Villa this year in the league cup . I still think it’s the shortee re at route to Europe. The hardest thing is a two legged semi. Otherwise it’s the cup to win. As held by Man City reserves

Christ man if you think the Burnley pen was deserved then I give up. You will see 5 incidents a game more worthy

The problem is how VAR is used and low competence of the officials. The thought that there’s systemic corruption to keep sides out the big 6 is just absurd. For starters Leicester aren’t in the traditional top 6 but have had some huge benefits of VAR. look at the handball call given against Spurs at Sheff Utd, Arsenal had a perfectly good goal chalked off at home to palace earlier in the season.
It’s like people moan that big clubs get more penalties, simple fact is they spend more time in the opposing box usually.

But the referee gave it. It wasn’t VAR

Var should have told him it was bollocks in my view just like today’s sending off was bollocks Boly handball v Leicester was bollocks Neto v Liverpool toe offside was bollocks. No fan on the planet is grumbling if those goals stand or the penalty isn’t given. I just don’t think we have had anything roll our way and y s I am really really disappointed

Was in the 'seen them given' camp, I didn't think it was, but is never going to get overturned. Doherty isn't protecting himself, he always jumps like that, see the Palace game when a penalty wasn't given as an example. Burnley's penalty at our place was also soft at the same point in the game and not overturned

I am glad that football isn’t the predictable set of events you seem to think it should be - would you be happier if we had beaten Burnley and not Man City - we are where we deserve to be despite your pointless desire to cherrypick results that didn’t compute properly.

It’s disappointing but I don’t think our summer will have been changed by being in the Europa League or not. I don’t think Raul’s thoughts on wanting to leave will change based on that for example. We’ve already shown what a good team we are domestically with two 7th places in a row and we’ve been good and still going in Europe. The kind of players we will be attempting to sign will be as likely to come without the Europa League as they would with it imo.

FWIW I think we’ll beat Olympiakos and then anything could happen from there.

All of Neves, Boly and Doherty need to shoulder far more blame than Mike Dean for that Burnley penalty.

Poor header to concede possession back to Burnley, Sunday League standard ball watching/lack of marking and a challenge so weak you'd think he was a schoolkid being forced to participate in a sport he didn't like.

Harsh but by no means a howler from Mr Dean, Wolves masters of their own downfall in allowing the situation to come about in the first place.

Yes in short. I would rather have beaten Burnley away and drawn with City even though it gives us the same points as it manages expectations. You and others crap on about cherry picking stats and results. The simple fact is we did not do well enough against those around us. And if you really want to go there we lost again to a relegated club in Watford but Liverpool did too!

I am feeling really raw and sore as we should not be in this position given where we were. Our performance re Arsenal and Sheffield and Deans generosity re Burnley have cost us dear in a season where Man Utd get 20 plus penalties. Spurs best two players are only available from June in Son and Kane and shithouse Arsenal Shithouse it again. If you don’t think that lot stacks up against us I don’t know what does

Still can’t believe the BBC didn’t show one replay of Martinez catching that ball, in real time he looked way outside the box.
