Eh? It was a stonewall pen.

Poor Tammy Abraham just can't buy any success. Although what he's doing in Chelsea's team at all is anyone's guess.

It wasn't a pen, certainly not a stonewall penalty

The angles I've seen show no contact

It wasn't a pen. VAR bottled overturning it because of the women officials IMO. Too much of a story.

Regardless of whether you think it was a pen or not, insinuating this is totally uncalled for.

I agree it's shit. But it's also the most likely reason why.

It's really a case of the referee being convinced that her original decision was correct and thus overruling VAR, which it is possible with male referees as well. Strange that she would do that because I have been impressed with how Stephanie Frappart handled the game up to that point (I'd watched the games she'd done in the recent women's World Cup and thought she was impressive for how she allowed the game to flow and got the major calls all right). But this one earlier today blew that favorable impression apart. Abraham used the age-old trick of dangling a leg and she fell for it. It was clear (at least to me) that Adrian had pulled out of the challenge. I hope that with experience she will not make such a crass decision in the future because she definitely does have promise as a referee.

Shit call from VAR
Should have been overuled but I guess they didnt define it as "clear and obvious", just soft? Like one of theose grounded catches in cricket.
Absolutely no reason why the men and women officiating should not meet the same standards. Just like driving. But you still get the old "jokes" about women drivers. Ah, perhaps in another 100 years you never know.

From the match report on BBC today

The video assistant referee looked at the decision and decided there was no clear and obvious error, although the contact from the goalkeeper looked minimal.

Adrian admitted afterwards "I touched him", but added "he was looking for that

Thats good business from Liverpool too. Get 5m for Mignolet and pick up Adrian who looked 10 times better behind the Liverpool defence. So Karma played a part as Abraham who won the dodgy penalty missed his penalty to hand the cup to Liverpool.

I thought all three officials were excellent. They had the fifa interpretation of no flag until the move is over spot on and they called it right when chalking off the goals. Faced with them or John Moss/ Andre Marriner/Stuart Attwell give me Mdme Frappart and her team any day TVM.

Norwich lead against Newcastle

This Pukki geezer was never going to score in the top flight etc etc...

So var only called upon if the ref gives or doesn't give a decision?
Clear penalty to Bournemouth in the 2nd half and just waved play on.
