The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

First half Villa defended well but also were doing well on the break. That part stopped second half so it became wave after wave of pressure. They'll take some positives from that but it's not really indication of how they'll do on the whole as they won't be able to play like that against mid-lower placed sides.

Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke that.

I said it during the playoffs but I don't know why he's in defensive areas far more than you would expect, he's just asking for that against better players.

Villa offered close to nothing second half and were finally unlocked by CL finalists. No major surprise. Suspect if Villa had tried to knock it around a little more Spurs goals would have come sooner. Ndombele looked entertaining

Villa turned into Brighton of last season second half so can’t complain about the result. Seen enough to suggest Villa will be fine, but they’ll have real issues against sides that sit in.
Grealish just slipped into the background as that game went on if anything Mginn looks more suited to the PL

I really like McGinn. But I thought Villa were quite poor. Could easily see Liverpool sticking 4 past them in the first 30 minutes.

We know we are a bloody good team. We were in 4th place form for the second half of last season.

I don't think 6 extra games in the group stages when you avoid one round of the league cup is the end of the world.

I think we can beat Leicester tomorrow. Not saying we will, but I believe we can

As always it's all about opinions. I think people are under calling the impact the EL will have particularly the travelling element with the size of our squad. I think Thursday will have a big impact versus the build up Leicester have had, I think we'll lose by a couple of goals, but I certainly won't be crowing if that is the case.

I think the Europa League may have an impact at some point but I actually think it might benefit us early as we have got our players game time in competitive fixtures. I think we will win tonorrow

If we finish top 4 I will donate £100 to a charity of wolves choice.

Anyone else?

The travel this week makes it difficult for us. I definitely understand TT's point of view - it could really hamper us. That said, we have a better coaching staff and team than the previous teams who have been affected by Europe negatively - and I do have faith in them. We are about to start finding out either way!

I was listening to the Guardian Football Weekly season preview, and Glendenning laid out how many less points the teams who had finished in 7th over the last few seasons got the next year. It was generally one or two dozen.

Bit of a eye-opener, that.

Talk of 3/4 is lolz

Let's see where we are after we play 1 actual league game

They were not the better side - they had one chance - Spurs just looked a bit static and lacking creativity.

Yep. Parked the bus and got lucky with a punt over the top. Great effort defensively but they were hardly Milan 89.

Shouted louder when Spurs went 2.1 than I do when Wolves score! I can appreciate a good looking man and cool hair, Grealish is deffo not in the 2nd group

I have missed the prem :)

Love the stat going around that Grealish has now lost 19 consecutive Premier League appearances.

Just seven months on from me saying Tammy Abraham is shit and wouldn't take him even as our backup striker and he is starting for Chelsea against Man United. Amazing.

Penalty conceded by Chelsea and scored by Rashford. Zouma looks a right bombscare at the moment. Shame for Chelsea as they had started very strongly.
