The Live Match Discussion Thread: 2019/2020

I don't think you can say Liverpool were lucky.

West ham were incredibly lucky to score twice.

Liverpool dominated possession, efforts on goal and chances

They're a very, very good team but I don't think they'll ever be revered by anyone outside Merseyside.

Whatever you think of Arsenal, everyone acknowledges that Wenger's best teams were really special to watch. This isn't the same.

Liverpool have ridden their luck all season, but they attack in waves when they are chasing games so in many ways make their own.

When you’re knocking the door down with those players you’ll score eventually whether it be from a poor clearance or a deflection into your path etc.

One thing I think we don’t do, but that’s the way we play, however I feel pragmatism can only get you so far.

Also helps if you’ve got the worlds best GK and CB to bail you out when you need to

Man, the Mickeys do not like their team being even mildly criticised on Twitter.

Keep going, lads.

It's weird. Surely their fans can see that you can be this immense points-scoring machine and get the overall better season than has ever been seen before without being as aesthetically pleasing as some of the earlier great sides.

As a comparator, Brazil 1982 are probably the most beautiful international side I have ever seen to watch (I'm way too young to have watched the 1970 side), but they didn't win.

This Liverpool side is brilliantly effective but it doesn't take the breath away, shall we say.

The thing is that they don't realise that I don't give a fuck what they say. So on you go.

They are not a lovely side. 1999 United are far better than these. 2002 and 2004 Arsenal are. 2008 United are. Deal with it and enjoy your league win, I would.

I think they are a better team than all of those. They are a better watch than none of them.

Quite often aesthetically pleasing to watch teams don’t win - not only Brazil in ‘82 but France were also terrific in that tournament and were cruelly robbed by the Germans.

Again Holland in ‘74 were a brilliant team but had an off day in the final against the Germans (again) - although if I had to pick the best club team I’d go for Ajax in the early 70s which won the European Cup 3 times on the bounce and were superb to watch with Cryuff simply magnificent.

And I’m old enough (sob) to have watched the ‘70 Brazil team - simply marvelous. Defensively quite ordinary but in attack they were imperious. I’d didn’t matter how many you might score against them, they were always going to score more (and with interest).

The most efficient team I've seen was Germany 1990.

The most beautiful team I've seen was Arsenal 2004.

Doesn’t help that they are so close after a City team who got 100 points and in amazing style too I suppose but I get what you mean regarding Liverpool

They weren’t necessarily lucky overall in that game last night but that bit of goalkeeping from Fabianski (all three goals he was quite poor on too) summed it up how their season has gone on. They aren’t 25 points better than Man City for me, but they’ve been incredibly efficient whilst also having a bit of a freak season anyway.

They're very touchy. It's quite tiresome with all the strawman arguments being thrown around, I won't bother again. At least United fans have a degree of self-awareness.

They won’t accept any criticism regardless of how well it’s constructed. Some of the media closely associated to them don’t help matters either.

As happens on what seems to be every CL week, another chance to laugh at Tony Pulis

Chelsea have been taught an absolute lesson here.

Tbf, Bayern are back to their intense predatory best. You just aren't given much of a chance to breathe against them.
Chelsea's young team and manager have been shown up, but so will other teams. I expect them to go long in this.

Plays back to the Liverpool discussion. Yes, they have been good, but the PL below them and City is historically weak this season and City have dropped off from their previous level significantly

Rangers on the back foot straight from kick off v Braga but they have just wasted a golden chance to extend their lead in the tie. Shite defending by Braga put 2 Rangers players clear on goal and they blew it.

Like the look of Hagi Jnr at Rangers. High work rate and very talented
